Men’s Hockey Drops Mid-Week Overtime Affair to Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Despite outshooting their counterparts and forcing an extra period of play, the Manhattanville University men's hockey team was outlasted by Connecticut College, 5-4, in a mid-week contest. After playing eight periods and a shootout in the last two matches, the Valiants now sit at 3-3-1, with a 3-2-1 record in conference play.

The home squad struck first in the contest, as 05:06 into the opening period with Cole Watson getting it done by himself for the early 1-0 lead. Later in the period, the Camels would mount a 2-0 lead as John Russo received a feed from Andrew Eberling and Jack Houser with under a minute to play in the opening twenty minutes. Conn College would outshoot the Valiants in the first period, 10-4.

In the second stanza, the Valiants would answer back to both markers, first at 03:33 from the stick of Elijah Devereaux (Webster, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) from linemate Lucas Baksay (Fairfield, Conn./Connecticut Roughriders (EHL)) cutting the Camels lead to one. Under two minutes later, momentum would sit on the Valiants bench, allowing Manhattanville to tie the contest at two-all from freshman Zach Turner (Eagle, Colo./Powassan Voodoos (NOJHL)), as Turner lit the lamp at 04:41 with help from Caden Eaton (Indian River, Mich./Cornwall Colts (CCHL)). Camels' Reid Shafer would restore the lead for Conn Coll, as Russo and Will Winship helped put the Camels back ahead 08:21 into the second period.

Manhattanville would once again even the game, as a hooking penalty resulted in the man advantage for the Valiants. They would take full advantage of the extra skater, with the power play unit of Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) and Tristan D'Elia (West Chester, Pa./Philadelphia Little Flyers (EHL)) setting up Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/New Hampshire Avalanche (EHL)) for the tying tally at 02:41 into the third period. For the third time, the Camels would snatch the lead back as Jon Barker rippled the back of the net four minutes after the Valiants tying marker. Not going away, Manhattanville would even things up from sophomore     Nicholas Rogers (Broad Channel, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) lighting the lamp, to push the contest into an extra period.

3:37 into the overtime period, Shane Zarcone would net the decisive goal to see the Camels capture the mid-week victory.

Tripp Clarke (Cazenovia, N.Y./Northern Cyclones (USPHL Premier)) got the nod in goal for the Valiants, totaling 22 saves in 63:37 spent between the pipes.

Manhattanville outshot the Camels, 29-27. Mateichenko, Rodgers and Ryan McKenna (Spokane, Wash./Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL)) all led the Valiants with four shots apiece.

Conn College held the advantage in the faceoff circle, 38-23. Paddison and Eaton paced the Valiants with seven and six, respectively.
