BOSTON, Mass. – Facing off for the first time in program history, the Manhattanville University women's hockey team fell to St. Olaf 5-0 in the consolation game of the 2024 Codfish Bowl. The Valiants head home from Boston sporting a 2-6-0 record, while the Oles return to Minnesota with a 3-7-1 overall mark.
The Oles scored twice in the first period before firmly putting the game to bed with a three spot in the third. After a scoreless opening 17 minutes, St. Olaf struck twice in a 21 second span, with Solvei Berg-Messerole and Reese Swanson breaking the scoreless tie. The Valiants were limited to just five shots on net in the opening period, all of which were successfully turned away by Baylyn Shankman.
After a scoreless second period, St. Olaf tacked on three more goals to their lead in the third. Sophie McBane, Andi Huselid and Grace Lankas added the tallies for the Oles as Shankman preserved the lcean sheet in the St. Olaf net with 20 saves across the closing two periods.
Jewells Austin (Bethlehem, Conn./Nonnewaug High School) made 30 saves to set a new career-high in the loss. The senior goaltender falls to 2-1-0 on the season with the loss.
The Valiants finished with 25 shots as a team, led by a four shot effort from 
Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) and 
Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame). The trio of 
Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), 
Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) and 
Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) each logged three shots on net.
St. Olaf dominated the faceoff battle, 35-13. Niedermier was the leading Valiant on the draw with eight faceoff wins.
Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) blocked a game-high five shots, while Flaherty added four.
The Oles finished 3-for-3 on the power play, scoring three times on their five shots with the extra skater. Manhattanville went 0-for-4 with eight shot attempts with the advantage.
