GREENWOOD, Ind. – With the announcement of the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District® Women's Volleyball team on Tuesday afternoon, the Manhattanville University women's volleyball team had four student-athletes honored with recognition. Seniors
Alyssa Bucci (Rye Brook, N.Y./Blind Brook High School) and
Eva Kocovic (Bronx, N.Y./Maria Regina High School) were joined by juniors
Samantha Andriola (Garden City South, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and
Loren Hernandez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy), the first CSC Academic accolade for all four Valiants.
In addition to her All-District® selection, Hernandez was also selected to advance to the national All-America® ballot for her accomplishments on the court this past year in conjunction with her academic successes.
Student-athletes with academic and athletic standing of sophomore or greater were eligible for this year's Academic All-District® Team. Candidates needed to also have a cumulative grade point average of a 3.50 or above while either playing in 90 percent of their team's matches or starting in 66 percent of their institution's contests.
Andriola played in all 30 of the Valiants' matches this past season, starting in 24. The business management major saw action as both a setter and right-side, making plays all over the floor. Andriola finished second on the Valiants with 413 assists on the year while providing 181 digs, 98 kills, 40 aces and 23 blocks. She ranked in the top five for Manhattanville in each aforementioned stat outside of kills where she finished sixth on the team.
Bucci saw the most game action of her collegiate career this senior season, appearing in 92 sets across 29 matches as a defensive specialist. The Rye Brook native took full advantage of the increased playing time, reaching 100 digs in the season for the first time in her Manhattanville tenure. Bucci, in the midst of her final year of pursuing her education degree, added 16 aces, also a new personal-high, over the duration of the campaign.
Hernandez was named the Skyline Conference's Player of the Year following the conclusion of her junior season which also saw her named to the All-Conference First Team for a second-straight year. Hernandez had one of the best attacking seasons in program history with her 390 kills in 2024 the second-highest total recorded by a Valiant in a single season. The marketing major also accounted for 444.0 points during the season, just two shy of the single-season record. Hernandez logged 290 digs, 53 aces and 15 assists as part of her stellar season in which she also earned Skyline Conference Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player recognition.
In a similar spot as her cohort Bucci, Kocovic was rewarded with the most extensive playing time of her collegiate career as a senior. A biology and sport studies major, Kocovic played in 81 sets over 28 matches. Averaging a dig per set, her 81 digs marked a new career-high for the Bronx native, as were her 21 service aces.
Voting for the CSC Academic All-America® ballot will take place from Dec. 17 to Dec. 31, with first-, second- and third-team honorees being unveiled on Jan. 14, 2025.
