FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's basketball team collected their ninth-straight victory on the road Saturday, defeating Farmingdale 69-58. The Valiants carry a 19-3 overall and 16-1 conference record into the final week of the regular season following the win.
Jamison Agostino (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and
Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) carried the load for the Valiant offense, combining for 41 total points. Senior Agostino scored a career-high 24 points as she was on point from deep, drilling seven shots from beyond the arc. It was the fourth time in program history a Valiant hit seven three-pointers and the second time Agostino accomplished the feat, previously setting the mark against Old Westbury in 2022.
Orlando, meanwhile, pieced together her third-straight game in double-figures with 17 points. While the sophomore shot just 4-for-13 from the field, Orlando was excellent at the free throw line, going 9-for-10 at the stripe. She also had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.
The Valiants dominated the glass to the tune of a 49-32 rebounding margin.
Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) finished with a team-high 13 rebounds, while
Julianna Kascic (North Bergen, N.J./Paramus Catholic) added 13, pulling down seven offensive caroms.
Following a back-and-forth opening five minutes, the Valiants settled in towards the end of the first quarter to take control. Manhattanville's first three baskets all came from deep, with Agostino hitting a pair of threes while
Angela Downey (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) added the third as the Valiants took a 9-6 lead. The Downey basket began a 13-1 Manhattanville run that nearly reached the end of the quarter before the Rams got another basket from Adrianna Romo-Leroux to close out the first. Still, the surge had the Valiants carrying a 19-9 advantage into the second.
The Rams shot back in the second quarter with four three-pointers to dent Manhattanville's advantage. Agostino opened up the frame with another deep ball before Farmingdale scored 14 of the next 18 points to make it a one possession game at 26-23 with 3:53 left in the half. The Ram run was carried by the Pohalski sisters Gemma and Emily who combined for 12 of the points. While the Valiants were able to reestablish an eight point lead with 2:14 left in the half, Layla Mendoza delivered a pair of threes for the Rams to close out the half. Orlando connected on a jumper to close out the first half scoring with the Vals up 35-30.
The Valiants came out strong in the third, opening the half on a 14-3 run that swelled their advantage up to 49-33. With the game threatening to get away from them, the Rams took charge over the final 2:26 of the frame, scoring 10 unanswered points to head into the final 10 minutes down 51-45.
Gemma Pohalski drained a three-pointer to begin the fourth, chopping Manhattanville's lead back down to three. Agostino responded with a three of her own to begin a 16-3 run that would effectively put the game away. Farmingdale would be unable to get back within single digits as the Valiants head home with their ninth-straight victory.
