RYE, N.Y. – Wrapping up the weekend series, the Manhattanvillle College women's hockey team dominated with a four-goal third period to defeat Stevenson, 6-4, and earn their ninth straight win. With the come from behind victory, the Valiants improve to 12-9-2 overall and 12-4-2 in UCHC play with only a week to go in the regular season.
Prior to puck drop, seven seniors would be recognized for their Valiant efforts and performances throughout their athletic careers at Manhattanville and they would earn a home ice win in celebratory fashion.
Manhattanville would get on the board first at 13:17 as
Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) would light the lamp off of assists from
Grace Genest (Wake Forest, N.C./The Gunnery (Conn.)) and
Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame). Stevenson would respond soon after with one of their own from Meghan Croyle, tying it up 1-1 to go into the first intermission.
The Mustangs would find success in the second, scoring three straight goals through only six minutes of play to take a huge 4-1 lead. Croyle would get her second of the day, while Katelyn Reid and Emma DeMan would each find the back of the net. Manhattanville's game plan would come to fruition as
Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) would score the Valiants' first power play goal of the day at 17:18.
Virginia Birnie (Ontario, Canada/Rosethay Netherwood School) and
Charlotte Stanwood (West Vancouver, B.C./Penticton Secondary) dish out assists.
It was a no quit third period for Manhattanville as the Valiants had full control of the ice through the final 20 minutes of regulation. It would start with Chinetti's second goal of the day at 3:12, from Birnie and
Lillee Dougherty (Wakefield, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey School) to get back within one. That would be followed up by another power play goal at 5:06 from
Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland), who has been having a phenomenal rookie season. That would tie it up, 4-4. Valiant leading scorer,
Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School), would then close out the game with a pair of goals at 15:53 and 18:27 to secure the 6-4 win, Manhattanville's ninth straight.
It was a dominant offensive performance for the Valiants as 14 skaters would fire off at least one shot. LePage and Chinetti would lead in numbers each fire off seven shots, and
Lindsay Reyes (Chino Hills, Calif./SUNY Cortland) would tally six.
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) earned another win in the crease for Manhattanville, making 20 saves on the day. She would find herself busiest in the third period with 10 total saves.
The Mustangs controlled the faceoff circle, winning 36 draws to the Valiants' 20. Felicio led the team with 11 wins, while Niedermier added five.
Manhattanville would go 2-for-7 on power play opportunities, firing off 14 shots total through 9:06 of play. They would go a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill, holding Stevenson to an even five shots.
The Valiants hit the road to close out the regular season at Nazareth on Friday afternoon. Puck drops at 3 p.m.
