ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's hockey team concluded the 2023-24 regular season on Saturday afternoon, falling 8-1 at Nazareth. The Valiants will officially carry a 12-11-2 overall record an 12-6-2 UCHC record into the postseason as the number-three seed for the UCHC Women's Championship Tournament.
Coming off yesterday's defensive battle that saw the Golden Flyers earn the 2-1 win, Nazareth erupted for eight goals, scoring three times in each of the first two periods. Nazareth held a 39-19 shots on goal advantage on the day.
The Golden Flyers had multigoal effort from Nikki Sharp and Makenna Wiljanen, with the duo accounting for four of the team's tallies. Corsica Skibinski, Allie Zack, Meredith Boettecher and Juliet Rutigliano all added a goal for the UCHC's regular-season champions.
Nazareth's lead climbed to 7-0 19 seconds into the third off Wiljanen's second of the game. The Valiants ultimately got on the board at the 4:46 mark as
Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy) netted her eighth tally of the year off an assist from
Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland).
The Golden Flyers rounded out the day with Sharp's second of the contest in the closing minute.
A day removed from becoming Manhattanville's all-time goalie minutes leader,
Franny Gerardi (Yonkers, N.Y./Selects Academy) played the first two periods, making 22 saves.
Jewells Austin (Bethlehem, CT/Nonnewaug High School) took over netminding duties for the third, making nine saves in her 20 minutes of action.
Gabrielle Cox (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane High School) fired a team-high four shots on target for the Valiants, followed by three off the sticks of Chinetti and
Grace Genest (Wake Forest, N.C./The Gunnery (Conn.)).
Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) won 11 draws for the Valiants, with Nazareth holding a convincing 38-18 faceoff win margin.
