Women's Lacrosse Unable to Keep Up With New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women's lacrosse team began their longest road trip of the season on Wednesday afternoon, falling to New Paltz by a final of 22-5. The Valiants drop to 1-4 overall with the loss while the Hawks improve to a perfect 7-0 start to their season.

The 17 goal margin of defeat was the biggest loss the Valiants had suffered since their 2022 Skyline Conference Semifinals 22-4 loss to USMMA.

The Hawks scored twice across the opening four and a half minutes of play with goals from Kaitlyn Shaw and Mia Bladinger getting the day started. The duo would have historic games, with Shaw setting a new Hawk single-game record with nine goals and 12 total points, while Baldinger's eight total assists also marked a New Paltz single-game high. Baldinger finished with 11 total points, now the program's second-highest total in a single game.

Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) got Manhattanville's first tally of the game with 8:04 remaining in the first off an assist from Colleen MacNeil (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) for her eighth goal of the season. However, it would be all Hawks for the rest of the half as New Paltz score 13 straight goals before halftime to take a commanding 15-1 lead through the opening 30 minutes.

The Hawk run continued well through the third quarter with three more tallies to make it 16 unanswered tallies. MacNeil finally brought an end to the Valiants' 33-minute scoreless drought by recording her 12th of the year with 4:36 left in the third. Meghan DeBellis (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) added one more tally for Manhattanville in the final minute of the quarter as the rookie netted the tenth goal of her season to move the score to 19-3.

DeBellis and Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) each scored for Manhattanville in the fourth quarter while the Hawks netted three final tallies to close out the game.

Jacee Russello (Hope Valley, R.I./North Kingstown Senior) made four saves in net for the Valiants.

Manhattanville was able to hold the advantage on the day's draw controls, winning 18 to New Paltz' 11. MacNeil led the team with 12 draw controls as the senior captain also finished with team-highs of three caused turnovers and six ground balls. Ava Wade (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) forced a pair of Hawk turnovers in her defensive play.
