PURCHASE, N.Y. - Playing in their first game of four in the week, the Manhattanville College baseball team fell at home to visiting Ramapo, 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Valiants slip to 5-7, amidst a four-game skid.
The Roadrunners took the lead early in the contest, after a double, single, and hit by pitch loaded the bases five batters into the game. Manhattanville would hit the subsequent batter, walking in the first run of the game.
Manhattanville would even the score in the bottom half of the second inning after
Anthony Pressimone (Bronx, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) led off the inning with a walk, one batter later
Christian Amoruso (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) would single through the right side of the infield putting runners on first and second.
Mike Ambrosecchia (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) would reach first on a fielding error by the opposing right fielder, bringing in the run from second for the Valiants' lone run of the contest.
Ramapo would take back the lead in the next half inning, as the Roadrunners got men on the corners, with Egner taking the pitch over the left fielder's head to bring home two runs, pinning the score at 3-1.
They would add to the lead in the top fifth, when Tallent brought home Bailey after he reached on an error to open the inning to put the score at 4-1. Egner would single through the left side of the infield, making his way to second from a throwing error by the third baseman, clearing the bases with his two RBI hit.
The Roadrunners would push the score to nine, putting up a crooked number the next time up to bat, scoring on an error by the third baseman after two consecutive walks. Egner continued his hot day at the plate, this time singling through the right side of the infield, bringing home two more runs, to have the score sit at 9-1 for Ramapo.
Manhattanville would attempt to piece together some offense, but the Roadrunner pitching shut down all batters, allowing just two hits in the final three innings for the Valiants.
Aidan Tumbleson (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) was tabbed with the loss, as he went five innings allowing five earned runs.
Ryan Osso (Eastchester, N.Y./Eastchester) would come in to pitch in relief, going three innings striking out four batters while only allowing one hit.
