Women's Tennis Falls to Pratt in Regular-Season Spring Finale

QUEENS, N.Y. – Seeing match play for the first time since capturing the Skyline Conference Championship back in October, the Manhattanville University women's tennis team was defeated 9-0 by Pratt Institute on Saturday afternoon. The loss brings a close to the team's spring regular season schedule as the Valiants will carry an 8-4 overall record into the NCAA Tournament next month.

A short-handed Manhattanville squad defaulted to Pratt in No. 3 Doubles and No. 6 Singles, putting the Cannoneers in an early 2-0 advantage. Pratt emerged victorious in both doubles flights that were played, with Manhattanville's rookie tandem of Suzi Doyle (Devon, England/Exeter College) and Addison-Mercedes Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) falling 3-8 to Pallavi Verghese and Beatrice Crespo in the No. 1 flight. Bea Pretnar (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) and Sara King (Schenectady, N.Y./Scotia-Glenville) battled hard against Srishti Agarwal and Ariana Castro in the No. 2 tilt, ultimately dropping the decision 7-8 (8-10).

The Cannoneers took all five singles flights that were played out to maintain their perfect 11-0 record. Pretnar fell to Verghese 1-8 in the show court, with Doyle suffering an identical result to Crespo in the No. 2 flight. Ortiz put up the strongest showing for the Valiants, dropping a 6-8 decision to Agarwal on Court No. 3. King was blanked 0-8 by Castro, while Mikhalia Grant (Mount Vernon, N.Y./New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II) rounded out play with a 0-6, 0-6 loss to Nastazja Cancellaro on Court No. 5.
