Men's Tennis Concludes Regular Season with Senior Day Sweep of Sarah Lawrence

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season and secured the No. 2 seed for the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament with Wednesday's Senior Day win over Sarah Lawrence. The Valiants carry 9-4 overall record into the postseason and a 5-1 Skyline Conference mark following the regular-season finale.

Prior to the match and amidst thunder delays, the team celebrated its five members of the Class of 2024. Weston Goodwin (Freeport, Maine/Freeport), Thomas Hitchcock (New York, N.Y./Glenholme School), James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield), Shiel Loganadan (New York, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends) and Justin White (Brooklyn, N.Y./Mary McDowell Friends School) were each honored with a prematch ceremony inside Kennedy Gymnasium as the teams awaited for the storms to pass.

With the skies cleared and thunder long passed, the Valiants began the match by taking all three doubles flights by 8-0 scores. Hourihan and Goodwin blanked Simon Kopecky and Leon Bronshvag in the No. 1 showing. Carter Hunter-Crump (Denver, Colo./Centaurus) and Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) shutout Devin Derian and Aidan Roney in No. 2s, while Loganadan and Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) finished up the doubles sweeps with an 8-0 victory over Samu Gabor and Vance Johnson.

The Valiants continued the strong play with victories in all six singles flights. Manhattanville made quick work in the top three flights to secure the match win. Hourihan defeated Kopecky 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1s, while Goodwin bested Derian 6-2, 6-0 on Court 2. In No. 3s, Loganadan defeated Bronshvag 6-1, 6-1. Hunter-Crump then went on to pick up a 6-1, 6-4 win over Gabor in the No. 4 flight. White and Hitchcock closed out the match with their first collegiate wins. White held off Roney 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 6 showing, while Hitchcock completed the sweep with a 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 10-6 marathon win over Peter Fathi on Court No. 5.
