Softball Continues Winning Ways with Sweep of Yeshiva

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - In a series where mother nature made her appearance, the now Manhattanville University softball team swept Yeshiva, 10-0 and 8-0, on Friday morning. The Valiants now sit at an even 7-7 on the young season, riding the tails of a seven-game winning streak.

Game One: Manhattanville 10, Yeshiva 0 (5 Innings)

In the first frame, the Valiants brought six runners home, thanks to efforts from Sarah Harker (Irvine, Calif./Irvine), Juliana Parkes (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Belmont Secondary), and Samantha Walsh (Spring City, Pa./Owen J Roberts). Harker and Parkes both finished the day with three runs batted in, while also going deep in their plate appearances. Walsh collected her 100th career hit in game one, where she finished the contest 3-for-3 from the box with one run batted in, adding in a double.

Manhattanville added to their total in the second stanza, plating four runs from Rachel Coleman (Lake Forest, Calif./Mission Viejo) and Alexa Lazur (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon), as Coleman finished 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, and Lazur adding on one run batted in on one hit.

Charli Shinstine (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) collected the win for the Valiants in the circle, pitching two scoreless innings, striking out four, allowing only one hit. Shinstine also made some noise in the batter's box, hitting a double in her lone at-bat.

Freshman Jori Wilkendorf (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) came in relief of the afformentioned starter, pitching three innings, striking out seven batters.

Game Two: Manhattanville 8, Yeshiva 0 (5 Innings)

In game two, Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) got the start in the circle for the Valiants, going three innings, striking out five and surrendering only one hit.

On the offensive side for the Valiants, right runs came across in the first inning, with standout performances coming from Coleman, Mottoshiski, and Sydni Brooks (Anaheim, Calif./Cypress) all collecting triples in game two. Cady Sickler (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) tallied two hits on three plate appearances, with Ruby Wilson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) following suit as she collected two hits of her own. Madison Gonzales (Azusa, Calif./Sacred Heart) went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in, as Samantha Reyer (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) rounded out the offensive output with an RBI double in her lone plate appearance.
