Men’s Lacrosse Season Ends with Loss to Maritime in Skyline Semifinals

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The 2024 Manhattanville University men's lacrosse season concluded on Tuesday evening as the No. 4 Valiants were defeated by top-seeded Maritime in the Skyline Conference Championship Semifinals. With the 19-8 loss, the Valiants finished 8-10 overall on the season.

The Valiants got off to a hot start taking an early lead at 1:04 with their first goal of the night from Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset), assisted by Nick Cornelia (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst). The Privateers responded with a pair of goals from their leading scorers' Parker Reilly and Charles Gerace to take a 2-1 lead. Manhattanville then tied it back up, 2-2 at 10:15 with a goal from Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains). It would become a back-and-forth affair as Maritime scored to go up as Cornelia scored again to tie it up, 3-3. A pair of Privateers' goals helped Maritime take their biggest lead of the night with just two goals.

The Privateers started to find their rhythm with a pair of goals to start the second quarter. Cornelia scored again to help the Valiants offense. It wouldn't be enough as Maritime found the back of the net four straight times as Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) scored back-to-back goals to bring the score back within five. At the half, the Valiants would trail, 11-6.

The third quarter was the best defensive display between both teams as only a combined three goals were scored. Cornelia scored his third goal for the Valiants at 6:25 between Maritime scoring a pair to bring the score to 13-7.

The final quarter of regulation began with Cornelia scoring his fourth goal of the contest, assisted by Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) as the Valiants brought the score back within five. It would take a quick turn for the worst as Maritime tallied six straight goals to close out the fourth quarter as they secured a 19-8 victory to advance to the Skyline Championship Finals. Overall, a six-goal performance from both Gerace and Reilly was just too much for Manhattanville to battle back from.

Cody Johnston (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) got his third start of the season in net, making 12 saves through 60 full minutes.

Francisco Rosas (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) led the team defensively with a season-high nine ground balls with three caused turnovers.

Nick Padovani (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Aaron Goldstein (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) combined for 12 draws in the faceoff circle.

In all, Manhattanville tallied 27 shots throughout the contest with 16 on goal. They went 19-20 on clear attempts while going 0-5 in the extra man opportunity.
