OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Firing a flurry of shots, the Manhattanville men's soccer team defeated the Old Westbury Panthers, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Valiants rattled off 22 shots, thirteen of which on net, to push their record on the season to 3-4-1.
The match started in the Valiants favor, as just sixteen seconds into the contest Manhattanville netted themselves a corner kick. Momentum stayed on the Valiants side, as they outshot the Panthers, 6-1 and dictated the match.
Kenneth Suqui (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) got Manhattanville on the board with his first career collegiate goal, finishing off a feed from graduate transfer,
Mason Chetti (Ronkonoma, N.Y./Connetquot). The 1-0 score would hold as the Old Westbury netminder faced another five shots, bringing the disparity to 11-1 as the first stanza would end.
More of the same unfolded in the second half, as the Valiants continued to pepper the Panthers' goaltender with attempts on goal. Manhattanville efforts were led by
Matthew Macedo (Pound Ridge, N.Y./John Jay Cross River),
Jostyn Blanco (Norwalk, Conn./Brien Mcmahon High School),
Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford),
Aiden Sivio (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell), and the aforementioned Suqui and Chetti. The score discrepancy would hold as the final whistle blew, giving the Valiants their first conference victory of the 2024 campaign.
Luis Granados (Pasadena, Calif./St. Francis) spent all ninety minutes between the pipes for Manhattanville, turning away two shots on net. The graduate brings his season goals against average to 1.71 following the clean sheet.
All told, the Valiants held the corner kick advantage, 7-4.
