PURCHASE, N.Y - Stepping on GoValiants.com Field for just the second time this season, Manhattanville women's soccer drew once again, this time against Ramapo College. With a final score of 1-1, the decision brings the Valiants to an overall record of 0-1-2.
Inclement weather struck in the first half with high winds and heavy rain to begin the game, leading to an actionless opening 45 minutes. With no shots on goal and no clock stoppages, Manhattanville managed to outshoot the Roadrunners 7-0 with intense weather conditions still advancing. Once the clouds cleared up, the offensive push from the Valiants became more prominent.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Manhattanville earned themselves a corner kick leading to senior forward Kelly Barrera (Port Chester, N.Y./Port Chester High School) assisting the only goal of the game from the Valiants. With a hard struck ball high into the box, freshman Alexandra Brauer (Lake Grove, N.Y./St. John The Baptist Diocesan) placed herself right into the middle of the box, heading and netting the ball in the top right corner, making the score 1-0.
Ramapo's offensive line came back strong outshooting Manhattanville, 9-5, in the second half. Coming down to the ten-minute mark, Ramapo had two strong shot opportunities as time ticked down. In the 83rd minute, sophomore forward Amber Maher of the Roadrunners took a touch past the Manhattanville defenders shooting hard towards the goal. Making her first save of the contest, junior Macey Girard (Branford, Conn./Branford) stretched far to her right side, parrying away the ball.
The Roadrunners remained relentless as time ticked down. Pressure paid off a short four minutes later as Maher benefited from a defensive mishap by the Valiant back line, scoring to tie the game, 1-1. That score would hold over the final four minutes before the final whistle blew.
Girard finished the contest with two saves keeping her at a 1.00 goals-against average through the opening stretch of the 2024 season.
The Valiants outshot Ramapo 12-9 with Brauer accounting for seven of those shots. Manhattanville finished the match with three corner kick opportunities compared to the Roadrunners' one.
