Women's Basketball Shuts Down Sarah Lawrence, 74-19

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Surrendering just three first-half points, the Manhattanville University women's basketball team dominated Sarah Lawrence on Wednesday night, picking up a 74-19 win in Bronxville.

The Valiants (11-4, 8-3 Skyline) held the Gryphons without a point for more than 14-straight in-game minutes, a span that stretched form 4:02 remaining in the first quarter all the way into the second half. It was the fewest points scored against Manhattanville since 2018, when Manhattanville set a program record by holding York to just 12 points. Sarah Lawrence (4-11, 3-8 Skyline) shot just 14 percent from the field, the Gryphons' second-lowest field goal percentage of the year.

After Kaila Dorch put the home side on the board with a layup 35 seconds in to begin the scoring, it was all Manhattanville. The Valiants scored the next nine points, seven courtesy of Julie Debrocky (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), to claim the lead. Kendall Stephens hit a free throw for the Gryphons with 4:02 left in the first quarter, which would prove to be the last of the Sarah Lawrence scoring for a while.

Manhattanville scored 31 unanswered points, ending the first quarter on a 6-0 run with three combined free throws from Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) and Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) ahead of a period-ending Madison Carlo (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) three pointer to bring the Valiant lead up to 15-3. The run continued through the entire second quarter as the Valiants scored 25 while holding the Gryphons 0-for-10 from the field allowing the advantage to swell to 40-3.

Dorch ended the Gryphons' scoring drought 15 seconds into the third quarter with a pair of free throws, while Emire Pedraza's jumper a minute later accounted for Sarah Lawrence's first field goal in more than 20 minutes. Manhattanville scored 21 points in the third ahead of a 13-point fourth quarter as Sarah Lawrence was simply unable to generate anything offensively.

Carlo and Debrocky finished with 12 points apiece to lead the Valiants' offensive output. Carlos did all her damage from deep with four three-point shots, while Debrocky hit a pair from deep along with a close-range shot and a four-for-four night at the line. Ramos also reached double figures with a 10-point outing.

Debrocky was also a leading rebounder for the Valiants, with both her and Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) coming down with seven boards as Manhattanville won the battle off the glass, 47-38. Carlo and Gabby Tucker (Port Chester, N.Y./Blind Brook) added five boards each.

Speaking of Tucker, the junior piloted the offense with a career-high nine assists. Kaitlyn Mangan (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) dished out four helpers off of the bench, while Ramos and O'Mara shined defensively with six and four steals, respectively.

Up Next
The Valiants have six days away from action before returning home for a big one against the current top of the Skyline. Manhattanville welcomes USMMA to Kennedy Gymnasium on Tuesday to wrap up the regular-season series, with the Mariners still remaining perfect in conference play.
