BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Using goals from three different skaters on three different lines, the Manhattanville University men's hockey team played themselves back into the win column, beating Brockport, 3-2, on Friday night at Wegmans Ice Arena.
Junior defensemen
Parker Chadwell (Tampa, Fla./Tampa Bay Juniors (USPHL)) provided the offensive output for the Valiants on the day, notching his first points of the season, scoring a goal and dishing out an assist.
The Golden Eagles got the first tally in the contest, with Aidan Taylor finishing a feed from Mitchell Haight and Matt Anastasio, finding the opening marker 9:40 into the first period. Both squads almost matched each other in the shots on goal department, with the Valiants narrowly leading in the first 20 minutes, 12-10.
Manhattanville eventually evened the scoring, with the aforementioned Chadwell, scoring an unassisted marker, lighting the lamp 13:43 into the second stanza. Just under three minutes later,
Johno Hoins (Telluride, Colo./The Frederick Gunn School / Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) would get help from
Artem Mateichenko (Kharkov, Ukraine/New Hampshire Avalanche (EHL)) and
Zach Turner (Eagle, Colo./Powassan Voodoos (NOJHL)), giving the Valiants their first lead in the contest, 2-1. Manhattanville would dominate the Golden Eagles in this period, firing fifteen shots on goal compared to Brockport's two.
Brockport would once again put the contest in a deadlock, from the stick of Chase Maxwell, settling the score at two-all with seventeen minutes to play in the third period.
Ryan McKenna (Spokane, Wash./Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL)) would plant the Valiants in front again with assists from Chadwell and
Brian Essing (Trumbull, Conn./Norwich Sea Captains (NA3HL)), for Essing's first career collegiate point, helping give the Valiants the 3-2 win.
Sebastian Woods (Limehouse, Ontario, Canada/Utica Jr. Comets (NCDC)) got the nod in the crease for the Valiants, saving 18 shots fired his way.
Caden Eaton (Indian River, Mich./Cornwall Colts (CCHL)) and
Lane Paddison (100 Mile House, Canada/Canmore Eagles (AJHL)) paced the offensive output for the Valiants, tallying six shots apiece. McKenna followed with five, as
Justin Fernet (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Taft School), Chadwell, and
Nicholas Rogers (Broad Channel, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) all finished with four shots.
McKenna led the Valiants in the faceoff circle with nine wins, as Hoins paced behind with six wins. Manhattanville held the edge against their counterparts on the dot, 22-18.
The Valiants went 0-for-1 in their lone power play opportunity, firing two shots. On the contrary, their penalty kill unit kept a clean sheet in two attempts on the ice.
