Women's Hockey Concludes Weekend Series With Shootout Win Over Curry

RYE, N.Y. – Another stellar performance from Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) in the crease supported by goals from Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) and Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) helped the Manhattanville University women's hockey team end the opening 2025 weekend series against Curry College with a shootout win on Sunday afternoon. The decision goes into the books as a 2-2 tie, bringing the Valiants' record to 4-6-2 overall as Curry now stands at 4-6-1.

The Valiants won the shootout in three rounds with a 2-1 final score in the skills competition. Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) and Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)) scored in the second and third rounds respectively, while the Colonels scored in the second round with a tally from Hannah Berkowitz. Sunday was Manhattanville's first shootout win since Nov. 17 2023 against Utica.

After blanking Curry on Saturday with her second career shutout, Cimorelli was just as impressive on Sunday. The freshman matched her career-high of 43 saves in Sunday's tie with the two goals allowed her lone blemishes on the weekend. Cimorelli has now allowed two or fewer goals in her last five appearances, allowing just five total goals in that stretch, as her goals-against average continues to plummet down to 2.24 with a .938 save percentage.

Cimorelli made 14 stops in the second period and 13 in the third, but her best showing arguably came in the five-minute overtime period. With the ice opened up for three-on-three play, the Colonels outshot Manhattanville 7-1 but Cimorelli stood tall, turning away each shot to send the game to the shootout.

In regulation, it was the Colonels striking first with the team's first goal of 2025 off the stick of Grayson Goolgasian. Reilly Ganter and Bella Mardesich picked up the assists on the tally, the only goal of the opening period at the 4:27 mark.

Manhattanville pulled even 2:39 into the second following Chinetti's goal. Joly won the faceoff in the offensive zone to Colby Cantor (Norwell, Mass./North American Hockey Academy) who passed the puck to Chinetti stationed atop the circles. The junior fired in a knuckler that found its way past Coriann Hoag in the Curry net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Valiants took their first lead of the evening in the third as LePage notched her first tally of the season 11:56 into the frame. Abby Kauffman's (Hershey, Pa./Hershey / New Jersey Colonials) shot attempt from the near circle was blocked by Ava Doyle, but LePage intercepted the Curry pass attempt and found herself one-on-one with Hoag in the slot, going top shelf in the right corner of the net to put the home side in front with eight minutes to play. The Colonels were able to send the game to overtime and the shootout off Goolgasian's second of the night with 3:20 left in regulation from Megan Sawatzky and Mardesich.

Cantor and LePage finished with four shots on goal apiece to lead Manhattaville. Chinetti and Saturday's hero Abby Mellen (Rockport, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon / Vermont Academy / East Coast Wizards) added three each.

Curry won the faceoff battle for a second-straight day with a 34-22 margin. Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) was once again Manhattanville's leader with nine draw wins.

After 11 penalties were assessed on Saturday, it was a much cleaner game on both sides on Sunday with just three total penalties. Neither side was able to light the lamp on the power play, with the Valiants finishing 0-for-2 (two shots) and Curry going 0-for-1 (four).
