Valiants Honor Seniors with Hardy 1-0 Victory

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville University men's soccer team delivered a crisp 1-0 victory over Maritime College at home for Senior day Saturday afternoon. A singular goal paired with 21 total shots kept the Valiants on the offensive for most of the match. The win marks their third Skyline Conference win in a row and fifth for the 2025 season.

Manhattanville kept the Privateers on their toes throughout the whole game. Throughout the first half, the Valiants collected a total of 12 shots in comparison to Maritime collecting two shots. Alec Pineda (Yonkers, N.Y./Port Chester) was first to get a shot off for the Valiants, followed shortly after by shots from Guido Sarango (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) and Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford). The trio of Pineda, Sarango, and Fernandez, with the help of Nico Del Vescovo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive), continued the pressure on Maritime, with all four continuing to generate shots throughout the rest of the period. Before halftime, neither team had managed to break the deadlock. Senior AJ Lucas (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) totaled one save, gathering two throughout the whole game, and Maritime goaltender Augusto Lebron tallied three after the horn with five throughout the match.

After the break, Maritime came in ready for impact. Alex Bacchiocchi (Groton, Conn./Fitch) was the first to get a shot off for the Valiants side just two minutes into the second half. Bacchiocchi returned quickly to the Privateers' end of the field with another attempted goal less than two minutes later. The Valiants continued to hold pressure with a corner from Sarango helping generate shots from Nick Diaz (Los Angeles, Calif./Burbank) and Fernandez before finding the back of the net. The first and only goal of the match came in the 66th minute from Keanu Stingone (Kew Gardens, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) after receiving a cross from Sarango. The goal pushed the Valiants up to lead 1-0 with just over 20 minutes left in the period.

Manhattanville continued to keep pressure on the Privateers, attempting to gain a bigger advantage, generating multiple corners from Fernandez, Pineda, and Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello), and shots from Pineda and Fernandez. The Valiants continued to hold the score in their favor, finishing with the 1-0 win.
