EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) finished ninth overall and earned his third-career placement on the Skyline All-Conference Second Team as the Manhattanville University men's golf team concluded its fall schedule on Sunday and Monday at the Skyline Conference Championships. After ending Sunday's opening round tied for third, the Valiants ended the two-day invitational with a team score of 677 (+101), finishing fifth out of the eight competing Skyline schools.
Popowcer posted matching rounds of 80 (+8) on the Par 72, 6,932 yard course in his two ventures through Eisenhower Park. The senior finished day one tied for 11
th after sinking eight pars and birdying on the Par 5 18
th hole. With several of the competitors ahead of him posting higher scores in their second rounds on Monday, Popowcer matched his opening day total with birdies on holes 3 and 7 with seven more pars. With his finish, Popowcer has placed ninth in each of the last two Skyline Conference Championships.
Liam Parker (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) finished the tournament in a four-way tie for 24
th, shooting a 171 (+27). The junior transfer opened his first Skyline Championship with a strong opening round, ending Sunday tied for 13
th with an 81 (+9) after a birdie on the opening hole and eight total pars. Parker's second go-around was not as smooth sailing, as he finished Round Two with just three pars, shooting a round of 90 (+18).
William Billequey (Montreal, Quebec/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) had a similar story, ending the opening day tied with Parker in the 13
th-place tie after a Hole 11 birdie and nine pars. The junior ended Round Two with a score of 91 (+19) after sinking three pars to finish the tournament with a total score of 172 (+28), placing 28
th.
Justin Fernet (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Taft School) rounded out the Valiants' scoring fivesome, placing 30
th with a two-round total of 174 (+30). The junior shot an 85 (+13) on Sunday with seven pars before adding four strokes to his total on Monday, shooting an 89 (+17). Fernet earned his first birdie of the tournament on Hole 3 and sank five more pars to conclude his outing.
Freshman
Pham Lam () closed out Manhattanville's golfers with a score of 188 (+44), tying for 33
rd overall. Pham shot 95 (+23) on Sunday, birdying Hole 16 alongside six pars, before knocking two strokes off on Monday with three pars, finishing Round Two with a 93 (+21).
Farmingdale's Padruig Douglas won the tournament with a two-day total of 144 (E), shooting an opening round of 69 (-3). Farmingdale's golfers took five of the top six spots on the leaderboard as the Rams captured the conference title with a team score of 598 (+22).
Saint Joseph's Long Island finished second, shooting 641 (+65), while Mount Saint Mary claimed bronze with a 654 (+78). Old Westbury claimed fourth with a 671 (+95), finishing six strokes ahead of Manhattanville. The Valiants edged out Yeshiva by a single stroke, as the Maccabees shot a 678 (+102).
Purchase took seventh (701, +125), while Mount Saint Vincent closed out the standings in eighth (720, +144).
