Masie Scores Lone Goal in Field Hockey Heartbreaker

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Emma Masie (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) scores lone Valiant goal in 2-1 double-overtime heartbreaker against Hartford on Tuesday night at GoValiants.com field.

The Valiants (4-7) drop its first home game since Sept 9 while the Hawks (3-7, 0-4 CNE) grab its first road victory of the season.

FIRST HALF – MANHATTANVILLE 0, HARTFORD 0

The first thirty minutes of gameplay set the tone for the defensive battle ahead. The Valiants held the Hawks to just two shots while firing four of its own.

SECOND HALF – MANHATTANVILLE 1, HARTFORD 1

Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) pinpointed the cross-cage pass to Emma Masie (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) for the first goal of the night, giving the home team their only lead of the game.

Kyra Benard scored her first of the night off a pass from Mikayla Mathews to tie the game, ultimately forcing overtime.

OVERTIMES

Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) stood her ground during both overtimes. She came out of the cage aggressively to stop two one-on-one breakaways in OT 1, adding four saves to the scoresheet in overtime.

Benard found the back of the cage for her second of the night to secure the victory for Hartford.

Up Next – Field Hockey heads back on the road to Ashton, PA, to face Neumann University on Oct 11 at 1 PM.
