Valiants Fall in Overtime Heartbreaker to Farmingdale State in Skyline Conference First Round

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's soccer team saw its 2025 season come to a hard-fought end on Saturday afternoon, as the Valiants fell 3–2 in overtime to Farmingdale State College in the opening round of the Skyline Conference Championships at GoValiants.com Field.

The Valiants came out firing in the first half, controlling possession and creating several quality shots early from Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello), Alec Pineda (Yonkers, N.Y./Port Chester), and Alex Rojas (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd). After testing the Farmingdale goalkeeper, Manhattanville broke through in the 15th minute when Roberto Velasquez-Osorio (Monticello, N.Y./Monticello) buried a strike off an assist from Luis Del Riego (Madrid, Spain/Rafa Nadal International) to give the Valiants a 1–0 lead.

Momentum stayed with the home side just a minute later as Kenneth Suqui (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y./Sleepy Hollow) doubled the advantage, finishing a setup from Velasquez-Osorio to make it 2–0. The Valiants continued to pressure offensively, forcing multiple saves and corner kicks, but Farmingdale State clawed one back in the 26th minute through Tyree Baskin Jr., cutting the deficit to 2–1 before halftime.

The second half saw both sides battle for control in a physical, tightly contested match. Farmingdale's Carlos Hernandez capitalized on a corner in the 53rd minute to level the score at 2–2. Despite relentless attacking efforts from Manhattanville — including late chances from Tiernan McLaughlin (Yonkers, N.Y./Fordham Prep), Nickolas Pagan (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream North), Nico Del Vescovo (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive), Lucas Fernandez (Stamford, Conn./Stamford), Velasquez-Osorio,  and Rojas — the Valiants were unable to gain the lead over the Rams, sending the match into overtime.

Starting overtime strong, the Valiants generated shots from Kyle Knussman (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), Pagan, Pineda, and Del Vescovo. In the 97th minute, Farmingdale sealed the game when Baskin Jr. scored his second of the night, assisted by Josue Corea, to complete the comeback and end Manhattanville's postseason run.

Goalkeeper AJ Lucas (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) finished with three saves off six shots on goal and a total of 15 shots faced, while Velasquez-Osorio led the offensive effort with six shots, four being on goal.

The Valiants close out the 2025 season after battling their way into the Skyline Conference playoffs, showcasing resilience and fight to the final whistle.
