Women's Basketball Sets Program Record With 112 Points in Triumph at Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's basketball won its first game of the season on Wednesday night in emphatic fashion, scoring a program-record 112 points in a road win at Medgar Evers. The Valiants improve to 1-1 on the young season with the win, while the Cougars drop to 0-2.

It is the third-consecutive year the Valiants have broke the program's single-game points record, surpassing last season's mark of 110 against Old Westbury from January 7, 2025. The 112 points is the fourth-most scored by an NCAA Division III team in the new campaign, two shy of NYU and Houghton's nation-leading 114-point performances from over the weekend.

All 12 active Valiants saw playing time and recorded a field goal in the record-setting win. The charge was led by Madison Carlo (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic), as the sophomore had the second 20-point game of her career on Wednesday. Carlo played 20 minutes off the bench and shot 8-for-14 from the field, going 4-for-8 on three-point tries.

Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills), Ryan Ford (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) and Maia Valazquez (Queens, N.Y./Christ the King) each joined Carlo in double figures as part of the offensive barrage. Ramos finished with 17 on a 6-of-10 night from the field, coming down with eight rebounds and adding three assists and three steals. Ford earned her first collegiate double-double with 10 boards to compliment her 11 points, both career highs, while Valazquez scored 10 in her collegiate debut.

The Valiants shot 48 percent from the field over the course of the night, barely slowing down regardless of the five on the floor. The tone was set early as Manhattanville outscored the host Cougars 27-4 in the first quarter. Leading 8-4 with 5:58 left in the opening stanza, the Valiants closed out on a staggering 19-0 run, holding the Cougars 0-for-7 to close out the period and forcing five turnovers. Carlo began her career-night with seven points in the first, while Ramos added six to help build out Manhattanville's 27-4 advantage.

Manhattanville hung another 30 on the board before halftime, shooting 50 percent (12-of-24) from the field. The scoring run continued with five more unanswered points over the opening minute thanks to a pair of Valazquez free throws and a Taylor Malone (Yonkers, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) three. The Cougars put an end to their scoring drought with a pair of free throws, but it did little to quell the Valiant offense. Manhattanville closed with 19 unanswered points across the final five minutes of the half, with Kaitlyn Mangan (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) beating the halftime horn with a layup to put Manhattanville up 57-13.

The Valiants closed out the night with a 50 percent clip for the second half, going 5-of-11 from deep and shooting 14-of-18 at the free throw line. Medgar Evers had its best scoring performance of the contest in the third with a 17-point quarter, but the Valiant lead surged past 50 points, leading 83-30 after 30 minutes. The dominant display was capped by a 29-8 scoring margin in the fourth, with Jada Janvier (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis High School) delivering the final and record-setting blow with a layup at the final horn to push the Valiant score up to 112.
