CAMBRIDGE, Mass, -- The Manhattanville University women's volleyball team concluded the 2025 campaign on Thursday afternoon, falling to No. 11 Trinity (Texas) in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in three sets. The Valiants officially wrap the season with an overall record of 20-8.
In her final match in a Valiant uniform,
Loren Hernandez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy) led Manhattanville's attack effort with 10 kills. The senior officially wraps her career with program-records 1,281 kills and 1463.5 points, departing as one of the greatest players in team history.
Samantha Andriola (Garden City South, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) provided three kills along with her team-leading 10 assists, while rookie standouts
Caylin Caballero (Eastvale, Calif./Walnut) and
Cassidy Fallon (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) close out their freshman seasons with two kills each.
Hernandez also led Manhattanville defensively with six digs, complimented by four from
Kayla Jennings (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and three apiece from Andriola and Caballero.
Alana Rivera Torres (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista de Guaynabo) also featured in the setting game, providing six assists for Manhattanville.
Trinity's size discrepancy was on full display as the Tigers used the height advantage to outblock Manhattanville 7-2. The Tigers also swung .485 as a team in the win compared to Manhattanville's -.092 mark.
Hernandez put the Valiants on the board with her first kill of the affair three rallies in as Manhattanville trailed 2-1. The Tigers broke the set open with a 6-0 run to go up 9-2. A Trinity service error follow by a Jennings ace got the Valiants the next two points before the Tigers rattled off five unanswered to jump out to a 14-4 advantage. Manhattanville's strongest showing in the set came on a 5-1 run, featuring three Hernandez kills, another from Fallon, and a block from Andriola and
Emily Brown (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Damien Memorial) that made it a 19-11 game. Trinity was able to withstand the blow, scoring six of the next seven to take the opener 25-12.
The Tigers scored the first three points of the second set and later used a 5-0 run to go up 11-3. Manhattanville was held without a multi-point run for most of the set as Trinity built up a 20-7 advantage with another five unanswered points. The Valiants ultimately pieced together a set-high three-point run thanks to an Andriola kill and a pair of Tiger attack errors, but there was too much ground to make up. Fallon provided the Valiants' final kill of the set before Trinity closed out the second-straight 25-12 set.
Trinity hit a staggering .765 in the third frame to close out the win. Manhattanville was able to keep pace with the Tigers through the early going as three Trinity service errors opened the door for the Valiants. Andriola logged an ace while Hernandez added three more kills to keep Manhattanville in striking distance down 11-8. However, momentum firmly shifted as Trinity scored the next six points and nine of the ensuing ten to blow it open, 20-9. Andriola provided the Valiants' final kill of the season before the Tigers captured the final two points to close out the 25-11 third set and send Trinity into the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
