Women's Hockey Completes Series Sweep of Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Manhattanville University women's hockey team completed the sweep of its season series against Chatham University on Saturday afternoon, duplicating yesterday's 2-1 decision against the Cougars. The Valiants improve to 2-4-0 overall and climb back to .500 in UCHC play at 2-2-0, while Chatham slides to 1-7-0 (0-4-0 UCHC).

The Valiants did all their damage in the first period, scoring both goals in the span of 1:38. For the second time in as many days, Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)) opened the scoring against the Cougars, firing home a feed from Jayden Wilder (Rochester, N.H./Lovell Academy). Aubin's fourth-career goal came 12:51 into the opening period.

With the team still buzzing off the opening goal, Molly Sances (Billerica, Mass./Billerica Memorial) wasted little time doubling up Manhattanville's lead. Aubin's bid for her second of the game was turned away by Samantha Brophy, but the rebound came out right to the stick of the junior Sances who was able to beat Brophy back to the spot for her first of the season at 14:29. Danielle Stadler (Zurich, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Wiedikon / GCK Lions) picked up the secondary assist on the play for the sophomore's first collegiate point.

The Valiants would ultimately need both goals, as despite holding a 30-22 shot discrepancy in the contest were unable to solve Brophy again over the rest of the contest. Manhattanville outshot Chatham 14-6 in the second but it was the Cougars finding the netting in the period as Ava England got the home team back within one 12:11 into the frame.

The Cougars outshot Manhattanville 7-4 in the third period in search of the equalizer, but Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) held firm to preserve her second win of the season. The sophomore stopped all seven shots she saw over the final 20 minutes and finished with 21 saves on 22 shots. Through the opening six games, Cimorelli holds a 3.03 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes) led all skaters with five shots on goal, followed by four from Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School). In addition to her three-point game, Aubin also led the Valiants with three blocked shots, a total matched by Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School).

Mackinnon was the Valiants' leader on the draw with 14 faceoff wins. The Cougars held a 33-29 advantage on the dot.

Neither team was able to do damage on limited power play opportunities. Manhattanville went without a shot on its lone 27 seconds with the extra skater, while Chatham went 0-for-3 with four total shots.
