RYE, N.Y. – Taking to home ice for the final time in the 2025 calendar year, the Manhattanville University men's hockey team was defeated 5-1 by Trinity College on Tuesday night. The Valiants, still seeking their first win through a season-opening gauntlet, drop to 0-6-0 on the year.
Manhattanville firmly controlled the opening period, outshooting Trinity 14-9 across the first 20 minutes. The Valiants' defensive play excelled at taking away looks from the Bantam attack to start the night, including killing off the first penalty of the night and standing tall to Trinity's four shots with the man advantage. Manhattanville built upon the strong defensive effort by striking first at 11:09 when
Nicholas Rogers (Broad Channel, N.Y./Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (NA3HL)) broke through into the goal column for the first time on the season from
Cameron Vassos (Caledon, Ontario/Navan Grads (CCHL)) and
Ryan McKenna (Spokane, Wash./Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL)).
Trinity's first period intermission adjustments paid off as the Bantams scored three times to take the lead in the second. Jason Zaccari tied things up 5:14 into the new period after intercepting a pass in the neutral zone and skating in by his lonesome. Trinity took the lead three minutes later on Ty Broad's goal while Blake Cotton added an insurance tally with 2:54 remaining to put the visitors ahead 3-1.
The Bantams tacked on two more in the third, a power play goal from Brendan Dumas 4:07 into the frame and a Spencer Korona strike with 5:17 left in regulation. After being held in check in the first period, Trinity ended the night with a 41-32 shot advantage.
Rogers finished with four shots on goal, leading the Valiants alongside
Johno Hoins (Telluride, Colo./The Frederick Gunn School / Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)). Hoins also blocked two shots, matched by
Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) and
Zach Choueiri (Montreal, Quebec/Renfrew Wolves (CCHL)) for Manhattanville's team high.
Faceoffs were nearly an even split, with the Valiants holding a 32-31 advantage.
Ryan McKenna (Spokane, Wash./Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL)) excelled on the dot with 10 wins in his 14 tries.
The Valiants went 0-for-5 on the night on the power play with eight shots. Trinity went 1-for-5 with 11 total shots.
