Men’s Basketball Second Half Charge Draws Win Against SJBK, 77-64

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's basketball team chased down a win to snap a three-game losing streak. Taking the short trip to Brooklyn, the Valiants faced off against Saint Joseph's University Brooklyn for another conference matchup, toppling the Bears, 77-64. With this win, Manhattanville now stands at 7-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Manhattanville found success from beyond the arc as the Valiants hit 17 three-pointers to fuel the win. The effort matches the program single-game record for three-pointers, which the Valiants originally set against this same Bears team three years ago to the day.

The Valiants were neck-and-neck with the Bears in the final 20 minutes of play following a first half with ebbs and flows that culminated with a 29-29 score at the horn. Manhattanville got off to a hot start with a 10-2 advantage just five and a half minutes into the game. SJBK tied up the contest with ten minutes remaining at 13-13. The Valiants built a lead back up to six points before the Bears clawed back again to tie things up with a pair of Jonathan Reno free throws to close out the opening period.

The Bears took the lead for the first half of the second stanza. With the home side leading 38-37, Saint Joseph's went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the day with 14:41 left to play. The Valiants responded immediately with nine-straight points in just 1:41 to completely wipe the Bears' advantage. Carlos Urena (Corona, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) hit a jumper before drilling a three-pointer to get the score within two. Shortly after Andrew Saint-Louis (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) netted a layup to take the lead once again.

After trading points for a few minutes, Saint-Louis hit back-to-back threes to take a 62-54 lead with seven minutes remaining. The Bears could not keep up with the revitalized Manhattanville offense  as the Valiants remained in control through the end of the contest to pick up the 77-64 win.

Urena had an impressive game, scoring a career high of 18 points. The freshman drilled four three-pointers, going 6-of-8 overall from the field.

Saint-Louis led the pack with 26 points, his second-straight game reaching 20 offensively.

John Ranaghan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) was the third and final double digit club member of the night with 14 points, with all four of his field goals coming from downtown.
