PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University women's basketball team took the court this afternoon in Kennedy Gymnasium concluding their conference matchup series against Yeshiva University. The Valiants had just beat the Maccabees three days prior, finishing off the contests with two more wins under their record. Manhattanville now stands at 17-5 overall and 14-4 in conference play. Yeshiva falls to a 4-18 overall record and 4-13 conference record.
A sluggish start to the first half with a low scoring first quarter from both ends of the court. Single digit scores on the home and away sides were notched as the Valiants had nine and the Maccabees had three at the end of the first quarter. The contest was scoreless for about three and a half minutes to open the game before Manhattanville could push the score differential further in the second quarter. Thet Valiants went on a three-basket run to close the first half with a layup by Gabby Tucker (Port Chester, N.Y./Blind Brook) in the paint to start the run at 21-11 with 4:39 remaining. Baskets from Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) and Niyona Smith (Baltimore, MD/Concordia Prep) finished out the first half.
Manhattanville started the second stanza strong closing the third quarter with a 26-point score differential. The half opened scoreless for the first two minutes of play before Smith secured a layup. The Valiants went on an eight-basket run preventing the Maccabees from scoring for five and a half minutes. Manhattanville increased the score from 29 to 40 holding Yeshiva to their fourteen points with under two minutes left in the third stanza.
The point margin only distanced further for the duration of the contest. The largest lead of the game came in the fourth quarter with a 39-point margin. The squad was able to close out the contest with eleven different Valiants tallying points.
Tucker had herself a day scoring 16 points as the leading scorer for Manhattanville this afternoon and notched five rebounds while going two-for-two from beyond the arc.
Smith had ten points for the contest, also earning five rebounds going four-for-eight from the field.
Julie Debrocky (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) was the third highest scoring Valiants with nine points going four-for-eleven from the field.
