Men’s Basketball Falls Short At Sarah Lawrence in Season Finale

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's basketball season came to an end Saturday afternoon against Sarah Lawrence College, dropping a hard-fought decision to the Gryphons, 71-65. Manhattanville ends the 2024-25 campaign with an 8-17 recordm going 4-12 in Skyline conference play.  

The Valiants started off the contest with an 11-0 run. Three baskets from beyond the arc gave Manhattanville the offensive edge in the opening minutes. The Valiants would see a ten-point lead with 15:16 remaining as this would be their largest margin of the first half. Sarah Lawrence quickly narrowed the gap, getting the score within two at the 12:24 mark. The score would remain within five points until the Gryphons took over with 3:52 remaining in the first stanza. Sarah Lawrence stood over the Valiants offensively topping off the first period with a ten-point lead.  

Manhattanville would see the lead two more times in the second half as the Gryphons kept the lead for a majority of the contest. A three-pointer from Benjamin Merritt (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) would tie the game 48-48 with a little more than twelve minutes lingering in the final stanza. The Valiants would then see their first lead of the second half in the following point with a jumper from John Ranaghan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River). The Valiants effort then led the squad to another tie at 51-51 with the final lead of the game coming minutes later at 55-54. A final tie at 57-57 with a layup from Jack Scanlon (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River High School) would be the last of Manhattanville's close quarter efforts in the contest. Sarah Lawrence was able to keep the lead regardless of the Valiants offensive attack to the very end.  

Manhattanville delivered with a 40 percent field goal percentage for the entire game. The Gryphons sat just above with a final field goal percentage of 46 percent. Sarah Lawrence also took over the three point line concluding the contest with a 45.8 percent average. The Gryphons can also pay ode to holding the Valiants off for most of the night by out rebounding Manhattanville, 37-29. 

Andrew Saint-Louis (Norwalk, Conn./Notre Dame Fairfield) led the squad in points with 18. Merritt followed closely behind with 14 points as one of his highest scoring games of the season. The final Valiant to earn double digit points was John Ranaghan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) with 11.  

Scanlon snagged five rebounds with Saint-Louis and Carlos Urena (Corona, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) each getting four for the night.
