Women’s Hockey Reigns Victorious on Senior Night Over Chatham, 3-0

RYE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University women's hockey team completed a series sweep of Chatham University on Friday afternoon as three goals from three different Valiants capped off a victorious Senior Day. Manhattanville now stands at 6-13-2 overall and 4-4-0 in conference play.

The team celebrated the Class of 2025--Jewells Austin (Bethlehem, Conn./Nonnewaug High School), Ciara Dauer (Winchester, Mass./Worcester Academy), Lulu LePage (Swansea, Mass./Elmira College) and Annie Niedermier (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame)--pregame in a Senior Day ceremony. Austin was joined on the ice by her brother Technical Sergeant Dillon Austin for a ceremonial puck drop alongside her opposing netminder Sam Brophy to conclude the pregame festivites.

After a dominating first period performance during yesterday's contest, the first stanza today remained scoreless from either end of the ice. Even with outshooting the Cougars 16-0, the Valiants could not find the back of the net.

Two of the three goals came in the second period. 2:46 into the second stanza, Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) found the back of the net with assists from Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)) and Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/John Maland) to get the scoring started. The Valiants held the extra skater advantage as Chatham's Hailey Braaten earned herself two minutes in the penalty box for high sticking. A few minutes later, Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) netted the second goal for the Valiants with an assist from Weisbeck. Manhattanville outshot Chatham 15-6 to conclude the second stanza of regulation.

Niedermier put the bow on her celebratory day with the third and final goal of the game in the third period at the 15:38 mark. With an interference penalty assessed to Erin Carter for the Cougars, the Valiants had a powerplay opportunity in their hands. Niedermier slotted the puck past Chatham's goaltender with assists from Weisbeck and Willoughby.

Austin finished with 16 saves to blank the Cougars, including 10 in the third as Chatham emptied the net for an extra attacker over the final four minutes of play. It was Austin's third shutout of her career, with the goaltender picking up her third win against Chatham this season in as many tries.

LePage tallied nine shots for the contest while four Valiants collected four shots each for the duration of the game.

Niedermier collected 22 faceoff wins and Mackinnon had six for the night.
