Men's Lacrosse Sunken by Massachusetts Maritime, 21-11

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Offense was on full display on GoValiants.com Field on Tuesday afternoon as Manhattanville and Massachusetts Maritime combined for 32 total goals as the visiting Buccaneers scored 14 times in the second half to defeat the Valiants 21-11. Manhattanville drops to 1-3 with the loss.

The Valiants needed only 36 seconds to open the barrage as Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) found the back of the net for his first in what would go on to be a season-high four-goal night. It took the Bucs four minutes to mount a response, but a pair of names that would be called all game long delivered as Ryan McDonough assisted Daniel Kane for the first of both players' six point performances.

Dom Janavey (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) put the Valiants back in front with 7:58 left in the quarter, but the Buccaneers scored three unanswered goals to bring an end to the first. Kane netted his second before Quinn Mucha added his first of five goals and Joe Vricella ended the period with a man-up tally to put the visitors up 4-2.

The Valiants got back to within a goal 4:05 into the second as Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) scored for the fourth straight game to open the season. The Buccaneers took over for the remainder of the half, getting goals from McDonough, Chilton Cabot and Mucha to close out the second quarter with a 7-3 lead.

The Buccaneers kept the foot on the gas to begin the third, extending its scoring run up to eight unanswered tallies with the first five scores of the half to erupt out to a nine-score advantage. Janavey snapped the Valiants' scoring drought with a man-up goal by way of Larkin as the teams traded blows over the next four goals. Braeden Kosiewicz reestablished the nine goal lead before Jake Strobel (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) scored off Larkin's second assist of the outing. Mucha mounted another response tally before the Valiants went on a three-goal run to close out the final four minutes of the third, getting goals from Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset), Janavey and Larkin to inch closer entering the fourth.

Momentum remained in Manhattanville's sticks as the Valiants kept on firing for three more goals to begin the fourth. Berch scored a man-up goal 47 seconds in from Janavey before Larkin buried his third and fourth goals of the contest, both from Palladino. The 6-0 run made it a game again, with the Valiants trailing only 14-11 with 10 minutes left in regulation. After watching their lead slim down, the Buccaneers righted the ship with four goals in a 1:24 stretch, opening a string of seven straight tallies to end the contest and head back home to Buzzards Bay undefeated with a 21-11 win.

Nick Padovani (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) collected a team-high five ground balls while serving as Manhattanville's primary faceoff specialist, winning 13 of his draw attempts. His ground ball total was matched by Matt Bundy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson). Dominic Russello (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown Senior) was one of Manhattanville's leading defensive playmakers, causing a pair of turnovers.

In the cage, Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) finished with 18 saves. It marks a new season-high for the Valiants' junior goalkeeper and was the most saves he's made in a game since logging 22 stops last March against Marymount.
