PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Valiants closed out home action on GoValiants.com Field for the year in style, scoring a program-record 29 goals in a dominant win over Saint Joseph's Long Island on Saturday afternoon. Manhattanville improves to 4-10 overall with a 3-2 mark in the Skyline Conference with two games remaining in the regular season, currently holding the fourth and final postseason spot.
The offensive output breaks a 33-year-old record set when the Valiants scored 27 goals in a win over CCNY back in 1992.
Ten different Valiants ended up in the goal column as part of the historic outing.
Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) had a career game with eight points, scoring six times and dishing out a pair of assists.
Sean Larkin (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) matched Palladino's goal total and added an assist, with his fifth goal of the day accounting for the 150
th point of his career.
Dom Janavey (Shrub Oak, N.Y./Lakeland) also added a career-high eight points on four goals and four assists.
Michael Swift (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) finished with seven points with two goals and five assists.
Nick Padovani (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) dominated on the X, winning 15 of his 17 faceoffs and collecting 10 ground balls, while also joining the scoring barrage with two goals and two assists.
Anthony Cozza (West Harrison, N.Y./Byram Hills) scored his first three collegiate goals in the win, while
Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) had three points on two goals and an assist.
Chris Gragnano (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook HS) posted his first collegiate multi-goal game with two tallies, while
Tim Beahm (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and
Nick Valdivieso (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) both netted their first goals of the year.
Berch and Gragnano opened up the day's scoring with a pair of goals separated by just 10 seconds a minute and a half into the action. Caden Stubba responded for the visitors before the Valiants scored 16-straight goals to close out the half. Manhattanville added nine more goals before the end of the first while scoring seven in the second quarter to make it a one-sided affair at the half, ahead 18-1.
Stubba got the Golden Eagles back on the board to open the second half, but it did little to slow down the Valiants' attack that was firing on all cylinders on the day. Manhattanville scored seven unanswered to close out the third quarter up 25-2. The teams traded four goals back-and-forth over the first ten minutes of the fourth, with Padovani's second of the day with 8:05 remaining tying the program's single-game goal record. Janavey broke the record with 3:28 left in regulation before Cozza netted the 29
th tally of the day to close out the contest.
Beahm finished as Manhattanville's leading defender with four caused turnovers.
Aaron Goldstein (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) was also successful on the faceoffs, winning 16 of 19 draws while finishing only behind Padovani with six ground balls.
Matt Bundy (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and
Francisco Rosas (Stratford, Conn./Stratford) each added four grounders.
Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) earned the win in net, making four saves in the first half with just one goal allowed.
Mike Hopkins (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) closed out the game by playing the final 30 minutes, making two saves and allowing three goals.
