PURCHASE, N.Y. – Wrapping up the penultimate week of the regular season, the Manhattanville University softball team swept Yeshiva University in a Sunday Skyline Conference doubleheader. The wins push the Valiants' record up to 24-6 overall and 12-0 in conference play, sitting alone in first place in the conference standings entering the final week of play.
Game One Recap: Manhattanville 8, Yeshiva 0 (Five Innings)
The Valiants plated all eight runs in the first to take a comfortable lead against the Maccabees to secure the day's first win.
Manhattanville did all the damage on six hits and four walks.
Isabella Tansey (San Diego, Calif./University City) drew a leadoff base-on-balls and stole second to cross with the first run on
Olivia Fasce's (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) RBI single. A
Samantha Walsh (Spring City, Pa./Owen J Roberts) single and
Rachel Coleman (Lake Forest, Calif./Mission Viejo) walk loaded the bases with one out before
Ruby Wilson (Merrimack, N.H./Bishop Guertin) picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to put the home side up 2-0.
Samantha Reyer (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) picked up her RBI in a more conventional fashion, clearing the bases with a three-run triple.
Alexa Lazur (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) drew the Valiants' third walk of the inning, stole second and scored alongside Reyer on
Emma Foster's (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) two-run single. As the lineup flipped over, Tansey drove the ball back up the middle to plate Manhattanville's eighth run.
Walsh and Coleman would add doubles later in the game, while
Cady Sickler (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) legged out her first career triple in the fourth.
Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) made the start, holding Yeshiva to one hit across two innings while striking out three. It was
Jori Wilkendorf's (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) game the rest of the way, scattering two hits over her three innings while matching her season-high strikeout mark with five punchouts. The sophomore improves to 8-3 on the year with the win while dropping her ERA below 2.00 for the first time all season, now sitting at 1.94.
Game Two Recap: Manhattanville 9, Yeshiva 0 (Five Innings)
Manhattanville put together another eight-run first to complete the sweep of Sunday's action.
The Valiants collected 13 hits, 10 of which went for extra bases. Tansey hit a pair of doubles, with Sickler, Fasce, Walsh, Lazur,
Lianna Lara (Santa Clarita, Calif./Sierra Canyon School) and
Juliana Catalano (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) all collecting a two-bagger of their own. Fasce and Mottoshiski both added a triple.
Tansey got the Valiants cooking right off the bat with a lead-off double, scoring on Fasce's triple in the following at-bat. Walsh then doubled to score the second run before Lara made it four-straight extra base hits for the Valiants with an RBI double. Coleman walked and scored with Lara on Motoshiski's two-run triple to extend the lead to 6-0.
Reyer was limited to Manhattanville's first hit that didn't go for extras, a single that brought home Mottoshiski. Reyer got herself on second with a steal before the extra base hits resumed, with Lazur hitting an RBI double. Tansey collected her second double of the inning as the Valiants batted around to score Lazur and put the Valiants up 8-0.
The Valiants added one more in the third as Catalano hit a double and later scored on an error.
Mottoshiski was back in the circle for the first two innings again, firing a pair of perfect frames with two strikeouts to drop her ERA to 1.75. She gave way to Walsh who made her fourth pitching appearance of the season. The senior earned the win to improve to 3-0, allowing one hit and striking out six. Like Wilkendorf the game prior, Walsh was able to lower her season ERA to sub-two, holding at 1.91.
