Softball Falls to Farmingdale in Skyline Conference Finals

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The 2025 Manhattanville University softball season culminated with a loss on Sunday to second-seeded Farmingdale in the Skyline Conference Championship Finals. The Valiants' year wraps with a final record of 31-11 following a fifth-consecutive appearance in the championship game.

Manhattanville held the upper hand through the first two innings, but a five-run fourth out of the Rams was too much for the Valiants to battle back against as Farmingdale secured its 10th Skyline Conference title in program history, its first since 2022.

After losing to Farmingdale yesterday to fall into the elimination bracket, Manhattanville needed to get off to a quick start in Sunday's do-or-die game to have a chance of forcing a winner-take-all finale later in the day. The Valiants accomplished just that, as Isabella Tansey (San Diego, Calif./University City) and Olivia Fasce (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) reached on a lead-off walk and hit-by-pitch to quickly put two one. The duo successfully pulled off a double steal, while the throw down to third sailed into the outfield to allow Tansey to score.

Another error allowed Fasce to score as Angelina Cruz (Oceanside, Calif./Rancho Buena Vista) laced a single through the right side and throw back to the infield sailed off target to bring Fasce home with a 2-0 lead.

Manhattanville continued to put the ball in play and force Farmingdale mistakes as Samantha Reyer (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) reached on a fielding error to lead off the second. She went on to score two batters later on an Emma Foster (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) single, but the Valiants would leave a pair on the bases, unable to further their lead.

Farmingdale won Saturday's contest on the backs of multiple Valiant errors, and it appeared the script was flipped to put Manhattanville in prime position to force a second game on the day, but the Rams got a run back in the third before piecing together a pivotal fourth that scored five runs on three hits and a pair of walks. Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) was unable to make it through the inning, ending her day in the circle with three-plus frames of work, giving up six runs on three hits and a pair of walks.

Manhattanville was unable to mount a response, being held to two hits across the final three innings by Madison DeMaio, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after pitching all 21 innings of the Rams' postseason to cap off her stellar rookie year.

Cruz was the only Valiant to record multiple hits against DeMaio, finishing 2-for-3 in the final game of her sophomore campaign. Reyer and Rachel Coleman (Lake Forest, Calif./Mission Viejo) accounted for Manhattanville's two extra base hits with a pair of doubles.

Jori Wilkendorf (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) came in for relief midway through the fourth, allowing only one unearned run on her docket on three hits, walking two and striking out one. The lone arm of this year's Valiant rotation to make multiple appearances that will be returning next season, Wilkendorf's sophomore campaign ends with a 2.43 ERA across 77.2 innings.
