PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University women's volleyball team return home on Saturday was spoiled by the visiting William Paterson University and Dickinson College as the pair of visitors knocked off the Valiants in a pair of 3-0 decisions. With the loss, Manhattanville drops to 4-3 on the season.
Match One Recap: Manhattanville 0, William Paterson 3 (22-25, 21-25, 16-25)
Facing off for the fifth-straight year, Manhattanville's Saturday opened with a loss to the Pioneers to begin tri-match action.
Caylin Caballero (Eastvale, Calif./Walnut) continued the stellar start to her collegiate career with her sixth-straight match with a double-figure kill total. The freshman led all players on the court with 12 kills as she has firmly established herself as one of the pilots of Manhattanville's offense.
Loren Hernandez (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy) added nine kills as the only other Valiant with more than two terminations. The rookie trio of
Amelia Morrison (Avon, Conn./Avon),
Izzy Mojica (Tolland, Conn./The Woodstock Academy) and
Cassidy Fallon (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) each finished with two kills.
Kayla Jennings (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) had 15 digs on Manhattanville's defensive front.
Alana Rivera Torres (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Marista de Guaynabo) added seven, while the attack tandem of Caballero and Hernandez finished with five apiece. Rivera Torres also handled the majority of the Valiants' setting efforts with 16 assists, followed by eight from
Samantha Andriola (Garden City South, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy).
The Pioneers logged eight blocks as team to Manhattanville's one. William Paterson's height advantage and netfront presence resulted in the Valiants hitting a season-low .091.
The Valiants had the early momentum off a five-point run that put the home team up 7-1. The Pioneers sprung to life by scoring the next seven points, the first of five lead changes over the rest of the opening set. After a few back-and-forths, the Valiants scored five of six to take a 22-17 advantage. The would be the last of the Manhattanville attack in the set as the Pioneers scored eight-straight to the 25-22 win.
Despite hitting a match-high .222 in the second set, the Valiants fell behind as the Pioneers score the first three points with a lead that held for the entire frame. Manhattanville trailed by a point at a 3-2 deficit and would fight back to a two-point hole on three separate occasions, the latest at a 23-21 score, but the Pioneers held on for a 25-21 second set final.
The teams traded the lead four times and battled to eight different ties in the third up to a 14-14 stalemate when the Pioneers took over with a sustained 11-2 run to secure the win, 25-16.
Match Two Recap: Manhattanville 0, Dickinson 3 (13-25, 17-25, 11-25)
Things did not fair much better for the Valiants in the finale as Manhattanville met Dickinson for just the second time in the two programs' histories after first clashing in 2018. The Valiants could not get anything going offensively, hitting -.010 on the match. It was the first time Manhattanville hit negative since last year's NCAA Tournament match against Gettysburg when the Valiants finished with a -.011 clip.
Manhattanville generated only 22 kills, the team's lowest mark in 2025. While Caballero's double-figure kill streak came to an end, the rookie once again led the effort with six kills. Hernandez offered five, while Andriola finished with three.
Rivera Torres (10) and Andriola (7) split assists, while Jennings' 11 digs led the Valiants once again. Jennings and Rivera Torres both notched a pair of aces on the service line.
After falling in three sets to William Paterson in the second match of the day, the Red Devils came out hot, hitting .379 in the opening set with 12 kills to just one error. Dickinson jumped out to a 7-1 lead, and while Manhattanville was able to responded with the next five points, that would be the last time the Valiants would be within striking distance before the Red Devils score five of six to go up 12-7. The lead never fell below three with Dickinson winning set point 25-13 off a 6-0 run.
Four early tied scores in the second opened up to a 7-7 score when Dickinson went on a 7-2 run to take over, leading 14-9. The Red Devils built the lead up to eight on a four-point run. Manhattanville fired back with five unanswered points of their own to cut Dickinson's lead down to 18-15, but the Red Devils snuffed out a comeback effort with five unanswered and holding the Valiants to just two more points in the set, taking the win 25-17.
The Red Devils ran away with the third set with 13 straight points to take a commanding 14-2 lead. The Valiants scored just twice while holding the serve for the remainder of the match as Dickinson completed the sweep, 25-11.
