Men’s Basketball Falls Short to Privateers’ Late Run

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – Manhattanville University men's basketball fell short against conference opponent Maritime College with the final score of 78-68 away on Tuesday night. The Valiants even out to 8-8 (3-4 SKY) while the Privateers move to 9-7 (5-2 SKY).

Leading the way for the Valiants was Chris Robinson (Bedford-Stuyvesant, N.Y./Westminster School) with 18 points, one steal, and two assists. Next in line was Isiah Middleton (Miami, Fla./Westminster Christian), posting 15 points going 7-for-13 from within the arc, and leading the team with six boards and a block. Close behind was John Ranaghan (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) with 13 points, while leading the team with four steals.  

The Privateers' offense was fronted by Zion Williams with 22 points and five assists. Evan Block shut down second chance opportunities with 12 of his 17 rebounds coming within Manhattanville's paint. Jake Devaney sat at the top of his team with five steals and four blocks.

The Valiants and the Privateers started off with an even exchange, evening the scoreboard 13 times in the first nine minutes out. Manhattanville grabbed a slight advantage 28-22 with Middleton locking in his 11 points of the night, followed by Daniel Marinaccio (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph By The Sea) putting down his first three of the game, and Robinson sealing the 7-0 run with a driving layup.
The home team responded to the burst with a dominant 16-5 run over the last seven minutes of the first half, sending both teams to the locker room with Maritime leading 38-33.
In the first five minutes of the second half, the Privateers pushed the score out to 48-38 for their largest lead thus far. Despite Robinson scoring 10 in the final 13 minutes of the game, both teams went on even runs of 30, securing the victory for Maritime with a final score of 78-68.
