Wilder Nets First Career Goal in Women's Hockey Loss at St. John Fisher

FAIRPORT, N.Y. – Squaring off for the first time ever against one of their newest conference mates, the Manhattanville University women's hockey team fell in its inaugural visit to the Rochester Ice Center on Friday afternoon by a final of 3-1 to St. John Fisher. The Valiants dip below .500 in UCHC play at 2-3-0 and fall to 2-13-1 overall on the season, while the Cardinals earn their first-ever conference win in their debut season, improving to 1-3-1 in the UCHC and 6-9-1 overall.

The Cardinals outshot Manhattanville 32-25, the third-highest shot total by St. John Fisher in a game this season. The home team struck first just over two and a half minutes into the action after a hooking penalty gave the Cardinals an early power play. St. John Fisher's attack rifled three shots on net with the extra skater, with Sophie Grant finding the twine for the early lead.

Manhattanville pulled back even early in the second as Jayden Wilder (Rochester, N.H./Lovell Academy) needed just 45 seconds after intermission to score the equalizer. The freshman received a cross-crease pass from Colby Cantor (Norwell, Mass./North American Hockey Academy) and was able to bury the puck in the empty net for her first collegiate goal.

St. John Fisher would go on to control the remainder of the period, outshooting the Valiants 14-6. Just 80 seconds after Wilder pulled Manhattanville even, Erin Lantry reestablished the Cardinal lead. Brooklyn Joyce added an insurance tally with six minutes remaining in the period with what proved to be the final goal of the game.

The Valiants outshot the Cards 11-8 in the final period but could not get anything past Brynn Bacak after the opening minute in the second. The rookie stopped the last 15 shots Manhattanville fired in her direction, ending the game with 24 saves.

On the other end of the ice, Olivia Cimorelli (West Deptford, N.J./The Hill School / Ironbound Elite) logged 29 saves in the loss. The sophomore goaltender made a game-high 12 stops in the second period and posted a scoreless third with eight more saves.

Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) finished with a team-high five shots on net, her second-highest single game total this season behind her six shots on goal against William Smith on Dec. 5. Katherine Stahl (Middletown, R.I./Middletown) and Taylor Willoughby (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Extreme) added three shots each.
Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) won six of Manhattanville's 16 faceoff victories as the Cardinals held a 22-16 advantage on the dot.

Claire Hazard (Barnstable, Mass./Worcester Academy) recorded a pair of shot deflections to lead the Valiants on the day, her second-straight game with two blocks.

The Valiants finished 0-for-1 on the power play, unable to record a shot with the extra skater in the second period. The Cardinals finished 1-of-3, adding two shots across their unsuccessful power plays.

Up Next
The Valiants look to split the series in tomorrow's contest with an early 9 a.m. puck drop due to impending inclement weather in the afternoon.
