PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's basketball team produced a dominant performance at home over Farmingdale State University, 74-41, behind seniors
Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) and
Gabby Tucker (Port Chester, N.Y./Blind Brook) as well as sophomore
Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman). The Valiants (15-3) remain untouched through 13 conference games, while the Rams (9-9) sit at 7-6 in the Skyline.
Ramos led the way for the Valiants with 18 points and co-led in rebounds with seven. Tucker knocked down 16, grabbed five rebounds within the Rams' paint, and dished it out five times.
In addition to grabbing seven boards, O'Mara was a threat across the court with 16 points, shooting 8-for-13 in the arc, as well as taking away three steals and shutting down a career-high four blocks.
DeBrocky was not far behind, scoring 13 of her own while fighting for six rebounds and posting one block and one steal.
Farmingdale was fronted with a double-double from Alexandria Walbroehl (10,10) and 10 from Samyah Allen. Allen was a force on defense with six rebounds and four blocks.
The Valiants came out hot, jumping ahead 7-0 with five from Tucker, and O'Mara taking away her first steal of the night within the first two minutes. The Rams answered with two driving layups to bring the game within three. In the second half of the first quarter, DeBrocky found her spot from beyond the arc, knocking down two while Ramos and Tucker fought in the paint for four apiece to skyrocket the Valiants up 21-7 after the first 10.
After a dry spell of two minutes, Ramos found her way through the paint to start off the second quarter and send the home team on a 10-2 run over the next three minutes. With four from O'Mara and two from
Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) and DeBrocky, the Vals sat ahead with a lead of 26 points, 39-13, with 2:20 until halftime. FSC put up four from the paint, heading to the locker rooms with the score of 40-17.
O'Mara found her way to the basket to ignite the Valiants in the second half, pushing the score to 44-17. The teams went back-and-forth, with Manhattanville holding the edge in the 8-7 run, putting the teams within four minutes of wrapping the third. O'Mara finished the quarter the way she started, adding four more to the board in the 9-4 run, heading into the final 10 minutes up 61-28.
In the final quarter, the Rams fought hard on defense, holding each team to 13 points. DeBrocky led the way with five while
Ryan Ford (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) secured four; O'Mara and
Molly Russom (Broadalbin, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) rounded out the scoring with two apiece, securing the victory 74-41.
