Women's Tennis Earn Back-to-Back Skyline Championships

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville university women's tennis program completed the second consecutive championship run against Farmingdale to bring home the trophy for the third time in the last four years. The Valiants have earned its second straight automatic bid to the 2027 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship. The Valiants finish out the season 10-1 while the Rams wrap up 11-7.

Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Maddie Maras (Brunswick, M.D./Brunswick) were the first to finish during the doubles matches. Court three earned the 6-2 victory to put the focus on the top two courts for the point. After court two finishing in favor of the Rams, Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) and Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) edged out for a 7-5 victory on court one, clinching the doubles point for the Valiants.

Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) was the next to add to the lead, after battling for a 6-2 first set decision, she went on to dominate 6-1 to secure the match. On the other side of the fence just minutes later, Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) put the Valiants within one with her similar 6-2, 6-1 win.

It all came down to courts five and six, both sitting ahead 5-2 in their second sets. After her serve, Maras fought through the rally to secure the 6-2 win. The sophomore transfer clinched the championship for her team during her first finals appearance for the Valiants while ending the season 6-3 on the singles court.

Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) was awarded the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after accepting the trophy with her sister and Mikhalia Grant (Montego Bay, Jamaica/New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II).
