RYE, N.Y. – Harper Weisbeck (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Sutherland) scored the lone goal as the Manhattanville University women's ice hockey program opened its 2026-27 season with a close 3-1 loss to Hood College.
The Blazers started off hot, ripping its first shot off just 12 seconds into the first period. After a trade of penalties left the ice four-on-four, Hood found its way around the defense to take a 1-0 lead.
With the visitors gaining a slim advantage on penalty timing, they earned their first power play of the season. Just four seconds into the newfound edge, the Blazers net its second goal of the game.
The Valiants earned a power play with three minutes left in the first period, ripping off seven shots to no avail.
Coming out of the locker room for the second period, the home team pressured the visitors, and three shots turned into the game's only goal, fired by
Danielle Stadler (Zurich, Switzerland/Kantonsschule Wiedikon / GCK Lions) and finished by Weisbeck.
With less than two minutes left in the third period, in an attempt to knot up the game at two, the Valiants opted for the empty net. Seconds later, the Blazers regained possession, sent the puck cross-ice, and into the net to lock in the 3-1 victory.
