Women's Tennis Wins Finals Rematch Against Farmingdale

PURCHASE, N.Y. – In a rematch of the 2025 Skyline Championship Finals, the Manhattanville University women's tennis team remained perfect in conference action with a 5-1 victory over Farmingdale on Monday afternoon. The Valiants are now winners of three straight, improving to 4-1 overall with a 3-0 mark in the Skyline, while the Rams fall to 5-6 (2-1 SKY).

Manhattanville took the upperhand in doubles with Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) making quick work of Kaelin Burnett and Emma Johannsen in the No. 2 flight, 6-1. The remaining duos draws would not be as easily decided, with both requiring a breaker to determine a winner. The Valiants would stand tall after the dust settled on Court 3, with Maria Gutierrez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) and Maddie Maras (Brunswick, M.D./Brunswick) outlasting Marybeth Zimos and Ana Hernandez, 7-6 (8-6). The Rams won their own marathon in the top flight, with Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) getting edged out by Natalia Furchel and Gabriella Loria, 6-7 (6-8).

With the doubles point in tow, the Valiants rattled off three-straight singles wins to secure the match. Filippelli rebounded from the doubles loss with a win in No. 1 singles over Furchel, 6-1, 6-1. Soon after, Maras won 6-1, 6-0 over Zimos in No. 6s before Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) secured match point with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Hernandez on Court 4.

Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) followed her sister's win with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 flight over Burnett. Farmingdale earned its lone point with the win in No. 5s, as Gutierrez was bested by Johannsen, 6-0, 2-6, 6-7 (4-7).

On Court 3, Lalman dropped the opening set to Loria 5-7 and led the second 5-4 before the match was called due to darkness.
