OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. – 12 Valiants scored in Manhattanville University women's basketball's victory, 96-45, over Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants improve to 19-4 (17-1 Skyline) while the Panthers sit at 2-17 (1-16 Skyline).
Of the 12 to score, four reached double digits.
Gabby Tucker (Port Chester, N.Y./Blind Brook) led the way on the scoresheet, one shy of her season high, with 19. Tucker shot 75% from outside the arc, knocking down three while also leading the scoresheet in assists with six and steals with four.
Right behind came
Julie DeBrocky (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac), shooting 71.4% from far and adding 17 to the scoreboard throughout her 25 minutes. DeBrocky also recorded three assists while taking away two steals.
Madison Carlo (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) followed with 12 points, two steals, and three assists in her 18 minutes on the court.
Esther Ramos (Queens, N.Y./Forest Hills) led the team with eleven boards and secured the double-double with 10 points. Of the eleven rebounds, six stopped the Panthers from second-chance opportunities in the paint. Today marks Ramos' third double-double of the season.
Old Westbury had three members in double digits, led by Endya Greene with 17, Sakhmet Lewis with 11, and Aissata Kone right behind, finishing with 10. Korrina Plair fronted the defensive effort with 10 of her team leading 14 rebounds, keeping the Valiants from second-chance shots.
In the first seven minutes of the game, the Valiants jumped out 25-0. DeBrocky got the ball rolling with back-to-back threes towards her eight points in the run. Tucker found her mark with two from long and drove hard in the paint to grab eight in the run. Carlo came out aggressive in the field and knocked in one from outside the arc, followed by four points from
Amanda Orlando (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) to round out the first run. A layup from
Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) finished out the first quarter, 27-5.
The Panthers came into the second half in a defensive front, only allowing the Valiants to add 16 to the board in comparison to the home team's 13. A three-pointer from DeBrocky sent both teams to the locker rooms with the score of 43-18.
Nine Valiants found their way to the paint in the third quarter, with
Ryan Ford (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy),
Kaitlyn Mangan (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), and
Molly Russom (Broadalbin, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) adding points to the board for the first time in the game. Mangan's layup wrapped scoring in the third, 71-36.
Taylor Malone (Yonkers, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic Prep) led the way in the fourth with six points, followed by Mangan with five. O'Mara, Tucker, Ramos, Velazquez, Carlo, Russom, and
Jada Janvier (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis High School) continued to add to the tallies, with everyone adding two in the final 10 minutes.
