PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Valiants of the Week both made an impact on the ice for their programs this weekend.
Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) for the women's ice hockey team and
Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) for the men's team.
CATRINA CHINETTI – WOMEN'S ICE HOCKEY
Chinetti led her squad to a dominant sweep over Hilbert College, outshooting the Hawks 155-16 and outscoring them 14-0. The senior netted two shorthanded goals in Friday night's game to begin and end the scoring during the night. She found her way through the defense, firing off a season-high 13 shots and winning eight of nine faceoffs.
During her senior day, she found her way to the celebration huddle once again, converting on a power play and sending one out during the game. She found her way to lucky number 13 once again in the stats, with a season-high 13 of 16 faceoffs won.
Women's ice hockey will split the weekend with Albertus Magnus College. On the road on Friday at 5 PM and back home for game two of the doubleheader on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
COREY POPOWCER – MEN'S ICE HOCKEY
The men's ice hockey program went 1-1 this past weekend at Albertus Magnus. Popowcer recorded his second goal of the season, with the first being back on Nov. 7 against Cortland, putting up the game winner in Saturday's outing.
Popowcer and the rest of his squad return home to Playland Ice Casino for a conference matchup against Chatham. Friday's game is set for 7 PM, and Saturday, the boys open up the doubleheader with a 2 PM matchup.
