RYE, N.Y. — The Manhattanville women's ice hockey team closed out play at Playland Ice Casino for the 2025-26 season on Saturday, falling 7-0 to Elmira College. The Valiants wrap the regular season with a 5-19-1 overall record, going 5-9-0 in UCHC play, earning the No. 6 seed for next week's Conference Championship Tournament and drawing a first round matchup at Utica on Wednesday.
Elsa Haakonsen (Trumbull, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) made her season debut in net as the sophomore made a career-high 40 stops against an unrelenting Soaring Eagle offense that will carry the No. 2 seed into the postseason tournament.
Elmira scored twice in the first, with Piper Thompson striking at 8:41 before Alayna Toole added a power play tally two minutes later. The Soaring Eagles held a 13-2 shot advanage in the opening period.
Elmira quickly added onto the lead after intermission, scoring their third goal just ten seconds into the period off the stick of Iliana Smith. Abby Eselunas stretched the visitor lead to 4-0 with Elmira's second goal of the period at 8:35. Manhattanville had a pair of penalty play opportunities in the period to try and claw back into the game, but were held scoreless on four shots with the extra skater.
The Soaring Eagles continued to hold control of the puck, outshooting the Valiants 15-7 in the third and tacking on three more goals. Piper Andrews made it a 5-0 game with 5:38 left in regulation before Elmira added two more goals on an extended power play after a major penalty gave the visitors five minutes of 5-of-4.
Manhattanville was outshot 47-16 in the contest. Danika Aubin (Guy, Alberta, Canada/Northern Alberta Xtreme (CSSHL)) had the most success generating looks for the Valiants with four shots on net, all in the third period. Catrina Chinetti (Hyde Park, Mass./Boston Latin Academy / East Coast Wizards) finished with three, logging one in each period.
Jada Mackinnon (Barrington, Nova Scotia, Canada/King's Edgehill School) led the Valiants in faceoffs with eight wins, followed by six from Ali Joly (Pickering, Ontario, Canada/Dunbarton / Caledon Coyotes).
