PURCHASE, N.Y. – Over the past weekend, men's and women's track & field traveled to Boston, Mass. To compete in the UMass Lowell Riverhawk Invitational. Amongst the new records and all-time ladders being climbed came the Valiants of the Week.

JAYDA BIRCH
Jayda Birch (Queens, N.Y./Excelsior Preparatory) broke the program's indoor shot put record, reaching 12.02 meters, passing the 2023 record of 11.50 set by Gabrielle Billetz (Clarksburg, Mass./Hoosac Valley). She finished first among 31 athletes competing. In the 400-meter, the senior finished 25th in her event while climbing the Valiants' record books to the second fastest in the event.

ALEX CARNEY
Alex Carney (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Mount Vernon High School) made his mark in the record book in both his individual event and in the 4x400 relay team. In the 60-meter dash, the junior finished with a time of 7.33 seconds, putting him in the books with the sixth-best time in the indoor event. Alongside Joey DeMilio (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), Aka Udeagha (Rye, N.Y./Rye), and Khalil Williams (Menands, N.Y./Shaker), the relay team finished with a time of 3:37.68, securing the program's fifth fastest time.

Both squads will travel to the NYU D3 Invitational on Saturday, Feb 14.
