GALLOWAY, NJ – Manhattanville softball opened its season with a doubleheader at Stockton University on Tuesday afternoon, dropping game one 3-1 and game two 3-0.
GAME ONE
Lianna Lara (Santa Clarita, Calif./Sierra Canyon School) recorded the sole RBI through the first seven innings of the season, going 2-for-3 with two singles.
Jori Wilkendorf (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) opened the season in the circle for the Valiants, throwing a complete game with seven hits from the 28 batters faced and three earned runs scored.
INNING ONE – MANHATTANVILLE 1, STOCKTON 1
TOP –
Manhattanville took advantage of a bases-loaded opportunity with an RBI single from Lara out to left field, scoring
Breanna Ochoa (South Gate, Calif./Saint Joseph High School).
BOTTOM –
Stockton tied the game, taking advantage of a throwing error from the circle to first base.
THIRD INNING – STOCKTON 2, MANHATTANVILLE 1
The Ospreys took the lead with a single out to center, scoring the player from third.
FOURTH INNING – STOCKTON 3, MANHATTANVILLE 1
A double to left center allowed Stockton to extend its lead out to 3-1, ultimately securing their first win of the season.
GAME TWO
The Valiants were held to just four hits in the shutout second game of the day, with
Emma Foster (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos),
Lianna Lara (Santa Clarita, Calif./Sierra Canyon School),
Johanna Granillo (Reseda, Calif./Cleveland), and
Alexa Lazur (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon)ing penetrating through the locked-down box.
Tahlia Smith (St. Helena, Calif./St. Helena) went the distance for the Valiants, allowing seven hits from 26 batters faced, allowing three earned runs.
FIRST INNING – STOCKTON 1, MANHATTANVILLE 0
The Ospreys started off with a single up the middle to send home the first run of the game.
FOURTH INNING – STOCKTON 2, MANHATTANVILLE 0
The second run of the game was scored off a groundout.
SIXTH INNING – STOCKTON 3, MANHATTANVILLE 0
With a groundout to second base, Stockton scored its final run, securing the 3-0 victory on their home field.
