PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Valiants held a 3-1 first period lead on Wednesday night but was not enough to hold off a resilient Immaculata team as the Manhattanville University men's lacrosse team fell to the Mighty Macs 10-6 on GoValiants.com Field on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Valiants to 1-4 on the season.
Manhattanville got a pair of goals from
Jake Strobel (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) to lead the attack effort, the senior's first multigoal game since Apr. 12, 2025. Strobel found the back of the net for the first time since the season-opener against Saint Joseph on Feb. 21, bringing his season total to three goals.
Dylan Foley (Northport, N.Y./Northport) (one goal, one assist) and
Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) (two assists) joined Strobel with multipoint efforts in the loss.
Frank Tallerico (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) and Foley put the Valiants up by a pair through the first 3:35 of the night. Foley set up Tallerico's opening strike 2:34 into the contest before Foley buried a feed from
Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) a minute later to get the Valiants off to a hot start. Immaculata got their first of the night from Nick Senatore following a Manhattanville penalty giving the visitors a man-up opportunity, but Strobel reestablished the two-goal cushion with 5:25 left in the period. The Mighty Macs struck once more as Aaron Headley scored with 44 seconds to go to cut the hosts' lead to 3-2 through 15.
Manhattanville scored the first two goals of the new frame, with
Anthony Cozza (West Harrison, N.Y./Byram Hills) netting his second of the year with 10:56 left in the half before
Drew Palladino (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) scored his team-leading ninth from Corace with 4:45 to go. Immaculata sprung back to life after the Valiants were assessed penalties, striking three times before the halftime horn to wipe Manhattanville's lead. Senatore scored his second man-up goal of the night with 3:35 to go before Jude Azzarono capitalized on another penalty with 29 ticks left. Jason Smaron completed the comeback, striking with nine second left on the clock to make it a whole new game tied 5-5 at the half.
Feeding off the late momentum, Immaculata carried the scoring run into the fourth with eight total unanswered goals to storm back and take a 10-5 lead. Strobel netted his second of the night with 5:47 left in regulation off a Corace assist, but that would be all for the Manhattanville attack.
Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) finished with 10 saves, making it five-straight games in double figures for the Valiant goalie to open his senior season. He falls to 1-4 with a 12.92 goals-against average on the year.
Chris Guazzo (Rye, N.Y./Rye High School) won a team-high six faceoffs for the Valiants, with
Chris Mercado (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) adding one win on his six draws.
Shea Madden (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) led the team defensively with four ground balls, followed by
Tim Beahm's (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) three.
Ryan Newman (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) forced three turnovers to set a new season high for the sophomore. Beahm and Cozza added a pair of caused turnovers as well.
