Women's Lacrosse Takes Down SUNY Poly For First Win of Season

UTICA, N.Y. – Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) and Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) scored three times each and combined for ten points to lead the Manhattanville University women's lacrosse team into the win column for the first time in the 2026 season as the Valiants defeated SUNY Polytechnic Institute 14-7 on Monday afternoon. Manhattanville improves to 1-2 on the young season, while the Wildcats drop to 0-4.

Glass and Cabral put up matching three goal, two assist performances as the duo lead the Valiants in scoring through the opening three games of the season, combining for 20 of Manhattanville's 37 total goals. Cabral also had a career-high seven ground balls in Monday's triumph while matching her single-game high of three caused turnovers, both leading the team on the day.

Jocelyn Mazo (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck), Lauren Mumaw (Kingsville, Md./Mercy High School) and Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) each scored twice, with Bridget Sonju (Canton, Conn./Canton High School) and Bethany Rudolph (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) capping off the scoring with a goal apiece. Rudolph picked up her first collegiate point with her goal as the freshman found the back of the net midway through the third quarter.

Also enjoying a first-of-her-career milestone was Mary Kopf (Congers, N.Y./Clarkstown High School North), as the freshman goalie earned her first collegiate victory. Kopf played a full 60 minutes in the cage and made five saves.

Mazo and Mariah Stephen logged three draw controls each, while Sydney Natale (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) and Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis) both won a pair. Mazo and Mumaw were second to Cabral in the ground ball column, both scooping up three in the contest.

The Valiants scored all three goals of the opening quarter to build an early cushion, with Cabral, Mazo and Sonju each striking in the game's opening nine minutes. Glass picked up her first assist of the day on Cabral's opening tally.

SUNY Poly got on the board in the first minute of the second quarter after Kopf stopped both shots she faced in the first before Lilly Hargarther struck for the hosts. Pierce, Glass, Mumaw and Mazo each scored for the Valiants before halftime, with Glass picking up another helper on Pierce's goal, helping Manhattanville move past a pair of Wildcat extra-strength goals and take a 7-3 lead into the half.

Manhattanville effectively put the game out of reach with five-straight goals to open the third. Cabral began the second-half barrage with the first two strikes of the quarter before assisting on both of Glass' following two goals. Rudolph capped off the run with her first career goal, pushing Manhattanville's lead up to 12-3. SUNY Poly got two back in the closing 3:24 of the third, but Mumaw added her second of the game in between the two home team goals to bring the score to 13-5 entering the final quarter.

Pierce capped off Manhattanville's scoring with her goal 2:07 into the fourth. The Wildcats responded with two more goals from Brinley Ronan and Katelynn Truax to get back within seven with 10:40 to play, but Manhattanville held SUNY Poly to just two more shots over the duration of regulation to capture the first win of the season.
