BASKING RIDGE, N.J. – The Manhattanville University men's golf team hit the greens for the first time in the spring season, competing in the Battle at Basking Ridge on Monday, hosted by the Stevens Institute of Technology. The Valiants finished tied for ninth out of 12 total teams, shooting a collective 347 (+63) on the day.
Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) shot an 82 (+11) to lead the Valiants' five golfers on the day. The senior sunk birdies on holes 2, 4 and 15, and added four more pars to his scorecard. He finished in a five-way tie for 26
th alongside Stevens' Maxime Debets and Punn Chitaratlert, Eastern's Jacob Wagner, and Kean's Logan Perrone.
William Billequey (Montreal, Quebec/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) was one of eight competitors to shoot a round of 84 (+13), all sharing the 33
rd place finish. He sunk par six times, three times each across the front and back nine.
Justin Fernet (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Taft School) finished in 51
st alongside Trent Fischer of FDU-Florham, shooting an 89 (+18). Fernet birdied the opening hole and sunk par four times on the back nine.
Tyler Rolston (Newport, Pa./P.A.L Jr. Islanders (NCDC)) rounded out Manhattanville's scoring foursome with a 57
th place finish, shooting 92 (+21), while
Liam Parker (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) finished one stroke behind to claim 58
th.
Stevens' "A" team took first place with a team score of 296 (+12). The Ducks were led by Jack Harris, who took the individual crown with an even round of 71.
