PURCHASE, N.Y. – Tahlia Smith (St. Helena, Calif./St. Helena) of softball and Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) of men's tennis have taken the Valiant of the Week titles for the week ending on Apr 19.
TAHLIA SMITH – SOFTBALL
Tahlia Smith (St. Helena, Calif./St. Helena) delivered a dominant complete-game performance to earn her fifth win of the season, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts in the first game of the week, a home matchup against FDU-Florham.
In game two, it was once again Smith's moment, as the freshman came within one out of a no-hitter while securing her sixth victory of the year. She opened the game by retiring eight consecutive batters before issuing her first walk, setting the tone in another home contest against Sage.
At Purchase for the final gameday of the week, the Valiants exploded for 12 runs across the fourth and fifth innings, lifting another strong outing from Smith in the circle to the win. The rookie right-hander kept the Panthers off the board through four innings, improving to 7-3 on the season. She struck out six, allowed just two hits, and did not issue a walk for the first time this year. Smith was relieved in the fifth by Hyli De Los Santos (Tustin, Calif./Irvine), who tossed a scoreless inning, allowing only a walk.
THOMAS JOUANNEAU – MEN'S TENNIS
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) went 4-0 across the week against Skyline opponents. In the first match of the week against Mount Saint Mary, Jouanneau won singles with the score 6-0, 6-1. In doubles Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) played alongside Jouanneau shutdown the Dolphins 6-0.
In the stand-out victory over Farmingdale to put the Valiants first in the conference, the graduate student delivered the clinching win in comeback style. He dropped set one 2-6, then winning 6-3, 6-2 to win the day.
In doubles, Jouanneau and Charretteur won 6-1.
