PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – Manhattanville men's lacrosse clinched the four seed heading into the Skyline Conference Championship with a 17-7 victory at St. Joseph's University Long Island, on Saturday afternoon. The Valiants conclude the regular season 6-8 (4-3 Sky) while the Golden Eagles finish the year 4-9 (1-6 Sky).
Frank Tallerico (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township) had a career-high seven goals on eight shots on goal, including his third game-winning mark of the season. Tallerico added three groundballs and an assist to the impressive performance to wrap up his final regular season for the Valiants.
Nick Corace (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) was next in queue with four goals on five shots on goal with two caused turnovers and one groundball pickup. Kylan Foley was the final Valiant with multiple finishes in the 60 minutes, while adding on two assists.
Tim Beahm (Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) led his team in assists, finding his teammates three times while causing the Golden Eagles one turnover and grabbing four groundballs.
Joe Ulzheimer (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and Elijah Bell (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) made their final regular-season outings wearing the Valiants uniform. Ulzheimer earned his fourth win in the goal for the Valiants with five saves towards his season total. Bell entered the game in the final 15 minutes for his fourth appearance of the season, making three saves and grabbing two groundballs while forcing one turnover.
Foley got things going for the Valiants with the first goal of the game. The home team responded quickly before Tallerico found Tyler Berch (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) to regain the lead. He found the back of the net twice, interrupted by one Golden Eagles goal, before the end of the first 15. The Valiants kept SJLI away from the crease for the remainder of the first half. Corace added two, while Jack Roberts (Middlefield, CT/Lyman Hall) and Tallerico added one.
The Golden Eagles scored two goals to begin the second half. Tallerico put the ball away, followed by Foley and Corace. The home team put up one more goal, sandwiched between Corace and two goals from Tallerico.
Tallerico added his final goal to the scoreboard in the beginning of the final quarter. SJLI scared two goals in the final quarter with Ian Denzer (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) and Strobel heading through the defense, allowing the Valiants to finish up 17-7.
